Disconnect negative battery cable.

2.) Drain the cooling system

3.) Remove serpentine belt and timing belt*

4.) Get a jack(you can use the scissor jack that comes with the car, but put a piece of wood over the top of it so as not to mess up the oil pan). Jack it up just enough to support the engine.

5.) Remove the 4 bolts from the water pump and pull it out of the engine.

6.) To replace it, make sure the old pump and the new pump are INDENTICAL.

7.) Clean the mating surface with acetone or something so it can hold good when you put the sealant and gasket on

8.) Put a thin layer of RTV on the engine side of the gasket, and do the same with the water pump side.

9.) Carefully stick the gasket onto the water pump and use the 2 of the bolts in a diagnol deal to hold the gasket on.

10.) Put the water pump carefully back into its space and make sure the gasket it mating with the engine block correctly. Tighten the bolts to the right torque

11.) Put the water pump hose back on and refill the cooling system, put the timing belt back on, the motor mount back on, and put the serpentine belt back on, fire it up and check to see if all is well.How do I change a water pump in a 93 ford escort?Take the old one out and put the new one in.
