How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus?

i have a 2001 dodge stratus and the timing belt broke, #1 how difficult is it to change? #2 should the water pump also be replaced too?How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus?you need to replace the timing belt with the tension-er ,they make timing kit that you buy that comes with everything needed to do this with, and you need a good repair manual, because it will explain this job real good and will also give you illustrated pictures of how its done, and its not easy to do on that car,if it has the 2.4 in it you in for big job,i did one a while back and it takes all day as fast as you can work to get this one done and back together and running again, and there a real pain to get back in time also, there's to many marks to line up that you could easily get of without pics of how its done, get a good haynes repair manual they offer the best pics and advice on how to do this one,and you need to replace the water pump as well while you got it off, good luck. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus? On some, most, you have to remove the engine to replace the timing belt. On some cars you do not. I don't believe you have to on your Dodge.

One thing you need to keep in mind and watch for. When some cars break a timing belt, it also can cause internal damage to your car, like a broken valve.

There are 2 types of engines and they are called %26quot;Interference%26quot; and %26quot;Non-interference%26quot;. An engine designated as an %26quot;Interference%26quot; engine, there is not sufficient clearance between some engine parts, so when the timing belt brakes, you can usually expect internal problems as well.

Here is a list of engine that ARE Interference engines to see if yours is listed: 2.0 DOHC (Double Over-Head Cam), 2.4 SOHC and DHOC, 2.5 V-6, 3.0 DOHC and 3.2 DOHC. If you have one of those engines, expect internal damage.

Should your engine have to be removed to replace the timing belt, it will cost you around $1,000. Hard to quote a price from different states. If you have internal damage, it could mean a new engine.

If you have a Non-interference engine and you are able to replace it yourself, yest, replace the Water Pump. If I had the engine out, I probably would also change the oil pump. An oil pump that goes out down the highway will ruin your engine before you can get stopped.

If the engine has to be pulled and you take it to a dealer, and you have a Non-interference engine, let him know that you are aware of what you are talking about. Don't want him to feed you garbage. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 dodge stratus? The chrysler 2.4 DOHC motor isn't an interference motor. Not sure if the SOHC 2.4, 2.7, or SOHC 3.0 used in stratus' are.

I would change the waterpump along with the timing belt tensioner.

For example, I swapped a 96 Stratus 2.4 motor into my neon. The motor had 36k and prone to failure headgasket. So I installed an updated headgasket. A year later, I had to replace the waterpump. It would have been alot easier had I done it while the motor was still on the stand.

Here is a good link on the best timing belt tensioner for the Chrysler I4 motors. http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=

I know money can be tight for people. This is one of those times that being cheap can cost you more in the long run.

This job is tough. You need a strong puller for the crank pulley. Probably need some heat to help. To help time the motor, make a tool to lock the cams in place. There are holes in the cam just for this.

In my neon, it would have been faster and easier to remove the motor. But I'm experienced enough to have the motor out/in of the car within a few hours.

  • How can i tell the difference between an 8v and a 16v 1996 p reg 1.6 ls astra?

i have to change the water pump on my 1996 1.6ls astra and i dont know how to work out if its an 8v or 16vHow can i tell the difference between an 8v and a 16v 1996 p reg 1.6 ls astra? If you don't know how to tell the difference, you shouldn't even be trying to change the water pump as it is driven by the cambelt. Get this job wrong and your car is fit only for a garden ornament. 8V has the spark plug leads at the front of the engine, and the top is thin and silver. The 16V has a squarish black plastic cover running side to side and the spark plugs are under this. To reiterate. If you don't know this, take it to a local mechanic, or if you are in South Yorkshire, I could do it for you.....How can i tell the difference between an 8v and a 16v 1996 p reg 1.6 ls astra? The most definitive way would be to remove the valve cover. It's a four cylinder car and should take about five minutes to remove. Then you can just count the rocker arms or cam lobes on the camshaft. How can i tell the difference between an 8v and a 16v 1996 p reg 1.6 ls astra? It should be on your paper work, or look at the metal plate under the bonnet. How can i tell the difference between an 8v and a 16v 1996 p reg 1.6 ls astra?one camshaft pulley =8v two pulleys =16v i would think its 8v

How much is a tune up,water pump and all weather tires?

This is my first car- it's a 1989 cheverolet cavalier. I just recently got an oil change and a leak fixed and they discovered the water pump also needs replacing. It probably needs a tune up, an alignment for sure and new front tires.

I was just wondering what some ballpark prices would be to get those things taken care of since I've never had anything to do with cars before. Thanks! How much is a tune up,water pump and all weather tires?water pump about $30.00 spark plugs and wires about $40.00 tires about $65.00 each and a front end alingment about $70.00 at your local garage and to have it all done your looking at about $300How much is a tune up,water pump and all weather tires?well realy they shoul dhave told you that when you was there but you can call any three places knowing what you need and ask.. to get a better deal and really sounds if you didnt check the car out much or very well seeing its needing all the work to drive it.. but anyways calling a few places even the place you was at and ask how much to replace will do it prices will vary between shops an d the work done is why its best to cal a round How much is a tune up,water pump and all weather tires?$500+ shop around.

I saw small drops of Coolant under my car this morning, not by the hoses, could it be Water Pump?

On my 1991 Olds Calais 2.5L %26quot;Iron Duke%26quot; 2.5L Tech4, i noticed small drops of Coolant dripping by where the Pulleys are, NOT THE HOSES, after 5 minutes of car warming up. I wonder if i need to do my Water Pump %26quot;Soon,%26quot; As it does NOT seem to be the Hoses, and MAY disappear a slight Coolant level drop, that happened fairly consistently (nothing major, but every week or two i noticed the coolant in the tank may have gone down by an inch, or slightly less. I did just flush it and its all bled and mixed.)

I dont know when the Water Pump was last changed, if ever, and i also read my Engine does NOT have a Timing Belt OR Chain, which is weird.

Is the Water Pump a Prime Suspect here? How much longer do i have, before it goes? I can change it at the end of the month..

Thanks!I saw small drops of Coolant under my car this morning, not by the hoses, could it be Water Pump?If the drips seem to be centered bellow the pump or where the fan attacheds to the engine block, you very well may be right. Often the water pump and/or gasket there can fail.I saw small drops of Coolant under my car this morning, not by the hoses, could it be Water Pump?yes it is the water pump, you got to jack the car up and put another jack on the oil pan with a wood block for support, take front passenger wheel off and take off all belts, take off front and right engine mont bracket, drop engine 6 inches, pull off all belts, and harmonic balancer, disconect ac pum

I saw small drops of Coolant under my car this morning, not by the hoses, could it be Water Pump?It sounds like the water pump. There is a gland hole in the casting and when the water pump bearing starts to wear the seal leaks and water comes out of that gland. You should change the pump straight awayI saw small drops of Coolant under my car this morning, not by the hoses, could it be Water Pump?Well Bink, it could be the water pump, it could be the thermostat housing, it could be a leaking hose, caused by a lose clamp ! Check freeze plugs, but if it's at the front of the engine, I doupt

    it !

I just changed my thermostat and my water pump but when i turned on the car the check engine came on i used my?

OBD2 scan tool and it gave me a error code P0118 i checked the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor wire to check the voltage and it was pushing out 5 volts as it has to. do i need to change it? and another thing how many coolant sensors does a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L V6 have?I just changed my thermostat and my water pump but when i turned on the car the check engine came on i used my?Do you have a temp guage? Is it running hot? You may need to bleed air out of the system. On or near the thermostat should be a bleeder screw. With engine off and cool, remove the screw and pour water into your radiator till it runs out of the bleeder hole. Then put the screw back in. Hope this helps. Good Luck.I just changed my thermostat and my water pump but when i turned on the car the check engine came on i used my?I would let it cycle through the heating %26amp; cooling cycle a few times,[ the error ] could correct itself and may have been triggered by your maintenance . Just be sure you got all the air out of the system and you should be fine.I just changed my thermostat and my water pump but when i turned on the car the check engine came on i used my?What year Cherokee. 4.0 is a straight or inline 6. Did you leave something unplugged.

I was going to look it up in Mitchell but I need the year. I think theres 2 temp sensors, one in the head and one in the jug or radiator but I need the year!!!

How to bleed a 1997 ford taurus cooling system?

ok i just changed the water pump on my 1997 ford taurus the water pump impellers were completely rusted away and we filled the system with water so we could flush everything out of the system and we cant seem to find a bleeder screw anywhere on the engine also there is no way to fit up the radiator seperatly we have to dump everything in the coolant recovery tank we jacked up the front of the car and started it but we are still afraid of air bubbles in the system. How to bleed a 1997 ford taurus cooling system?that is a self bleeding system. after draining the radiator and closeing back up just put in a gal of pure antifreeze and then a gal of water do it slow then start the car and turn on the heat all the way up and finish up with pure antifreeze, as it burps itself it will let any extra out the cap. that car is designed that way.How to bleed a 1997 ford taurus cooling system?there's usually 5 bleeder screws:

2 on the left side of the block, near the bottom

2 on the right side of the block, also near the bottom

1 on the radiator, on the bottom usually on the right side.

Don't worry about bubbles and make sure to run the engine once you have it filled with the water to engage the cleaning process. Make sure you use Prestone Cooling System cleaner or a similar product!

  • How often should I do water changes?

I prepare and treat the water leave it to stand for at least 24hrs, then take 10% out and clean the filter sponge etc but after about 5 to 6 days its clouding up again surely I don't need to change the water so frequently. My tank is an Aqua 40 with a pump and filter that sticks to the side of the tank if that helps. Just done a water change and tank looks crystal clear but for how long? How often should I do water changes? After 30 years of aquarium experience I would say that you have a fairly new tank or you are overfeeding. New tanks cloud up because they have no beneficial bacteria to eat the waste. If you over feed the same thing happens because there is not enough bacteria to eat the extra food. Contrary to popular belief aquariums need some waste in them to function as ponds and that takes time to build up this balence. When I set up a new tank I let it run for 1 month without putting fish in it just to let it settle. After that, for the first year I add cheap fish because the tank still is 'new' and chances are they will die. After the first year there now is a sort of balance so you could try to start growing easy to grow plants and adding other harder to keep fish. A tank really is not settled until after the second year. It is good to change 10-15% of the water every 90 days but water changes are overrated. I have an AQ that has had only up to 20% of the water changed every 3 months and it has been going for 15 years. Water problems come from people not understanding how to upkeep their aquariums (overfeeding, overcrowding, non-removal of excess waste, lack of adequate filtration, ect) rather than being a necessity. I also found that every tank is different, some fish do great in some of my tanks and other fish do great in others, same for plants. How often should I do water changes?i got fish as well and change 10% of the water every two weeks and clean out the filter that's what the man at the shop saidHow often should I do water changes?I believe you should change it weekly! How often should I do water changes?you might want to get a better fiter it should not clound up like that get a extra one thats under the stones you shouldnt have to change the water for a few monthsHow often should I do water changes?Once a month, 50/50 water change taking the water off the bottom of the tank with a special tool. It looks like a water bottle with the bottom cut off attached to a hose. When you start draining the water into a bucket, you push this tool down into the gravel and it churns the gravel and removes fecal and food particles without sucking up your gravel. By taking the water off the bottom of the tank, you are removing the most nitrites and nitrates in the tank since this is where they reside. Try it... it will work! How often should I do water changes?if you leave the light on all the time that makes water cloudy only use lite 4 no more then 2 hours at night timeHow often should I do water changes?put marble rocks at the bottom it will helpHow often should I do water changes?i do a 25% water change as i have 2 very big walking catfish ( Meat Eaters ) and are very messy....my tank is 6x6x2 feet.

But for you 10% every week with water conditioner would be just fine , Clean your sponge filter out every month in old tank water NOT water form the tap .

Some tanks can take weeks to settle down , Leave yours for a week with everything turned up ....pumps / filters / heater etc..

the water will clear in time .... dont rush it... then do a water test and see how things are going ..How often should I do water changes?cloudy is because the are no bacteria.. can go and buy bacteria in pet shop or get some old filther sponge from aqua frens, and put into ur filter and run few days, the cloudiness will gone..

at this moment (i mean until the water get clear), then only change half of water, wait one more day, then you can bring fish home ~~!!

oh a note here, don take out or wash sponge this time, let the bactiria get active through out ur filter....How often should I do water changes?a least once a week maybe even two times a weekHow often should I do water changes?every 15 days. take half of the water in the tank, put more water in, turn the filter on, leave it on for at least 10 hours for best results, add water clear tablets, aqua safe, and one of those liquids that clear cloudy water and PRESTO it's clear! How often should I do water changes?only put about 1-2 fish in and try that if it doesn't work ask someone at a petstoreHow often should I do water changes?about every two weeks or soHow often should I do water changes?I have a 20 gallon fish tank, and I usually change about 5 gallons of it every 4-5 days....it seems to keep it clean and clearHow often should I do water changes? The frequency of water changes depends primarily on rate of nitrate accumulation in your tank. The type and quantity of fish also plays a large role as does tank size. Also certain fish are messy or produce more waste than other fish.

A fully stocked tank with messy fish (example 10gal with a trio of gold fish in it) will need more frequent and larger water changes than a lightly stocked tank (example, a 180-gal with a dozen neon tetras).

Also some fish are more tolerant of poor water conditions and can exist in tanks with few water changes, while others require prestine water conditions and large frequent water changes are required (discus, rams, frontosa, etc).

25% weekly is a good interval to practice. Basically you want to keep nitrates below 40ppm. Depending on your tank size and fish, 10% weekly might be adequate, or maybe 30% three times a week, each tank is different.

When washing filter sponges and other media, always do so in dechlorinated water so you don't wipe out your beneficial bacteria colony. How often should I do water changes?once a weekHow often should I do water changes?maybe the sponge in the pump needs cleaning or u need a new one i do mine every 2 weeks take a quarter of the water out and top back up again, or maybe your pump is not big enough for the tank so it cant cope or you have too many fish in it.

How to get the serpentine belt on a 94 ford Taurus??????

i was changing the water pump on my wife's 1994 ford Taurus and i have everything put back together but the serpentine belt. and i can not for the life of me get it on. Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!How to get the serpentine belt on a 94 ford Taurus??????lookunder the hood and everywhere else in the engine compartment for a diagram. It left the factory with one. There should be one spring loaded tension pully that you will need to take the tension off temporarily with a wrench as the last step in installin the belt. You may as well replace the belt while you have it off, and the auto parts store should also have a diagram for it. good luck. How to get the serpentine belt on a 94 ford Taurus??????You need a special tool. They will have it at Auto Zone, etc. There is a tensioner which is getting in your way, you use the tool to pull it back and then the belt easily slips on

You can probably borrow the tool, to buy it is about $50, but you need it for every belt changeHow to get the serpentine belt on a 94 ford Taurus??????well what you do need are sockets or hand tools, and you'll need to losen the parts that your belt goes to so that youll be able to fit it on there...How to get the serpentine belt on a 94 ford Taurus??????There is a pulley that is used for tensioning the belt. I think is uses a 14mm Allen wrench. Install the belt over all the pullys except the tensioner, then use the wrench to pull the tensioner inwards toward the center of the motor and slip the belt over the pulley and release the tension on it and you're done.

When to change all the car hose?

how often should you change your car hoses or when do you change them I had my car for about 6yrs runs great including in and out of town driving. (141k miles 95 ford escort LX 1.9)

I take care of my car by doing prevenative maintenance.

right now I'm about to change the timing belt and water pump its been about 4yrs for the belt/and water pump so I'm thinking about replacing all the hose while I'm under the hood.

and soon I think about replacing the fuel pump this summer, Its been on my car ever since i had it I think that need to be replaced too before it cause me trouble even tho it seems fine.

or how often should you change a fuel pump anyway? When to change all the car hose?Anything rubber should be replace when it becomes more brittle than flexible. (or earlier if it is unusable for other reasons) For hoses, this typically means that when the start to show fine spider-cracking on the surface... (that way it doesn't develop into coarse fail-cracking)

Fuel pumps ought to be changed only when they die. Most after-market fuel pumps are of such poor quality that you're better off with your original old pump until it's dead. When to change all the car hose?If they appear cracked or worn replaceWhen to change all the car hose?hoses should be changed if they show cracks or if they become soft to the touch like a ballon that kind of soft........fuel pumps on ford escort do not usually go bad, i've checked with ford and they tell me that they rarely go,i had an escort with 300000ks with the original pump and it never missed a beat

How do you replace a belt tensioner?

I was changing my water pump and in the process i broke the tensioner and i went and got a new one screwed it on and now it squeals. i was told there was a spring action kinda deal going on with it ... but um i need to know how to put it on correctly with a prybar or something i need details people!!!

95 cutlass supreme slHow do you replace a belt tensioner?there should be en index dowel pin... is your belt or pullies contaminated with coolant? How do you replace a belt tensioner?YOU NEED TO PUT A SOCKET ON IT AND TURN IT IN THE MIDDLE WHERE THE PULLEY TURNS ... Manually change head gasket in 97 saturn sl1?

searching all over the internet in forums and such, i narrowed my problem to a blown head gasket. i've already changed the water pump and the thermostat and its still having problems. there is black soot in the inside walls of the coolant tank and coolant drains really fast. if i let the car sit there running it will be fine but when i start driving it will start to overheat. a little bit of white smoke comes out of the tail pipe also. i'm a do-it-yourselfer and i know a lot of people say that if you have a blown head gasket then you're better off getting another car, but i was thinking if i pick up the haynes manual, i can knock it out in a weekend. my brother is a mechanic but he said that if he fix it it will take him weeks cause he works everyday (including weekends) but if i get the manual then i can fix it myself. how hard would something like this be for someone who is very intermediate with fixing cars but is an expert at following directions? how long would it take me to get to it and put everything back? (not including getting the head checked first)Manually change head gasket in 97 saturn sl1?Be prepared to spend money on another head. The lost foam casting process Saturn uses for casting their heads produces rather porous and inferior castings. You could have a crack or other issue, not just a gasket. Techinically it is not that difficult if you have a manual and tools.Manually change head gasket in 97 saturn sl1?cant win with this motor/these engines are known for this problem and turn out junk/seen dozens like this/doesnt pay to fix/the block is bad

  • I have a water leak in my truck?

i have a 1998 gmc 1500 2 wheel drive 350 and there is a water leak and i have changed the water pump but it seems to be coming from the motor the front top of the motor what could this be and how can i tell ? it seems to be coming from under the air conditioner what could this be and will it be priceyI have a water leak in my truck?Sounds like where the heater hoses connect at the firewall. If the heater hoses are are old and deformed at the connections, replace them. It is cheap. It could just be loose hose clamps too.I have a water leak in my truck?I going to throw this out there simply because I don't know how much you know about automobiles, but a/c systems condensate and drip as you operate the vehicle and is more noticeable when you park/idle and it accumulates. This is natural and not a problem.

If it's something more drastic than this, I apologize for taking your time.I have a water leak in my truck? Most likely it's coming from one of the hoses, fittings, couplings, connections that are associated with the cooling system.

I can't see it from here, so I can't be more exact.I have a water leak in my truck? It's not unusual for that truck to get a warped intake manifold and it will leak on the top part of the engine.I have a water leak in my truck?Hi

If its difficult to start then it will be the head gasket and yes its priceyI have a water leak in my truck?its prob just coming from one of the hoses. do you have to constantly add water to it? if not, then the drip you see is simply from your ac unit.I have a water leak in my truck?Coolant can leak from a number of places: intake manifold (if it is the %26quot;wet type%26quot;), head gasket, thermostat housing, hoses, freeze plugs, or heater core. Your best bet is to have the cooling system pressure tested so that the coolant will be squeezed out from where it it leaking and you can go about fixing it from there.I have a water leak in my truck? If it only leaks when you run the air conditioning and it looks like water rather than colored antifreeze, then it could be just the normal A/C condensate water draining down. If your engine coolant reservoir keeps going low, then you need to find the coolant leak by careful inspection (see your auto technician).I have a water leak in my truck?it might be a freeze plug. if i were you i would pull the AC compressor away from the engine but leave the hoses hooked up and check. maybe a heater hose is leaking on top of the intake and running downI have a water leak in my truck?I would suggest you look at the hoses and the water jacket washers (round recess washer about 25mm diameter).Check the water pump again for a leak between the pump and engine block, sometimes the gasket can leak after replacement and requires re tightening. Its good to also check the %26quot;thermo couple%26quot; by placing it in hot water to see if it opens, its not expensive to buy a clone one.I have a water leak in my truck?I chase after unseen leaks with a paper towel, pressing it into places (cool engine, of course) and looking for traces of wetness.

Not to jinx you, but your 1998 GMC may be a victim of Dex-cool. GM made Dex-cool (orange) coolant universal in their vehicles in 1996, about the same time they changed intake manifold gaskets to plastic. The two turned out to be incompatible and the coolant caused enough intake manifold gasket failures to cause GM to settle a class action lawsuit about it. Unfortunately the claim period has expired. I use Prestone Long Life instead of Dex-cool for my daughter's 2004 Classic now that it is out of warranty.I have a water leak in my truck?Sounds like a freeze plug to me. You've got 2 on the top front of the motor. They are almost directly across from where the water pump bolts to the block. Good luck.

Only one goldfish keeps getting Ick, how can i treat it?

i have a few gold fish in a 100 L tank, it has a good air filter and water pump, we check the ph once a week, change water when needed, ive been using Pimafix for Ich . there is only 1 fish that keeps getting Ick . It recovers but now Ich has came back on this one gold fish , really bad, i dunno wat Else to try , any suggestions?Only one goldfish keeps getting Ick, how can i treat it?There's no use isolating 1 fish that has ich. By the time you see the ich, it is spread in the entire water. It is contagious, and you should treat the entire tank with medicine. The easiest way to cure your tank of ich is to leave it empty for a month, and during this period raise the temperature to 85 degree F. Leaving a tank empty will kill your Nitrogen Cycle (in 3 days) so just add some ammonia in the tank every other day to keep it alive.

I am recommending that because a few goldfish in a 100 L is an overstock. It's roughly 20 gallons (US) and at best a 20 gallon can hold 1 fancy only. Chances are your fish supplier was the source of the ich, and I would consider changes sources.Only one goldfish keeps getting Ick, how can i treat it?I suggest reading this http://thegab.org/Illness-and-Treatment/ and maybe look at some other info they have. Best of luck to you.Only one goldfish keeps getting Ick, how can i treat it?dont keep it with other fishes.... just shift that one to an hospital tank and just add the madicine...dont forget to add some salt in the tank which makes the bacteria kill...

when that fish is fully cured... if u think it is cured then shift to the main tankOnly one goldfish keeps getting Ick, how can i treat it?Remove live aquatic plants. The treatment can harm or kill live aquatic plants.

Preform a partial water change and achieve optimal water parameters.

Temporarily increase the water temperature to 75-80*F (24-27*C). This encourages the ich parasite to speed up its life cycle. The sub-epithelial ich parasites will burst out of the skin and fall to the bottom of the tank where thousands of new free-swimming parasites will search out a host. It is only during this swarmer stage that ich can be treated.

Add a .03% concentration of aquarium salt; one teaspoon per every gallon of water. Aquarium salt is readily available at local pet stores. It is important to treat the entire tank not only the infected goldfish. Avoid using a quarantine tank.

Over the next 24 hour repeat step 4, in 12 hour increments for a total of three doses of aquarium salt. (It is common for ich to get worse before it starts to get better.)

Leave the aquarium salt in the treated goldfish tank for two weeks then preform a 50-75% water change.

Add a protective stress coat solution to encourage a healthy slime coat and immune system of the goldfish.

    Good Luck!

Coolant question for a 98 VW Jetta?

I have a 98 VW Jetta and I just had a couple things fixed but then today the tempature gauge started to blink...first I can't find where to put the coolant, I only found the reserve and it was low...then I filled it to the correct level and I drove it for about 10 minutes the light is off now but the level already went below the lowest line in the reserve tank. So I had the timing belt changed, water pump and the tensioner something or other...Why would my level be so low already or is that how it is supposed to be? Do I look at the level when the car is running or when it is off? PLEASE HELP! this car is my daughter's first car and she is 16...I would die if she breaks down...Coolant question for a 98 VW Jetta? My first car broke down a few times but my parents never died... ;)

Anywho, sounds like a coolant leak. Due to recent maintenance, the water pump seal seems to be the most likely culprit but just look for where it's wet.Coolant question for a 98 VW Jetta? You cant be sure its full until you find the radiator and remove the radiator cap . Youll need to start car and put heat on full blast. Then start pouring coolant into the radiator until you cant put anymore in it. coolant level will go up and down inside radiator for a while, be patient and top it off. After its full, cap it off and then fill the reserve to full line. If it goes down then you may have a leak. Make sure car has been sitting for about 30 minutes before removing radiator cap, or else itll spray out due to pressure...Coolant question for a 98 VW Jetta?Wow. Some of those items are not related to the water level. A timing belt was needed fine. If the car had 75k miles on it a timing belt would be the right thing to have done. If the water pump was bad that would of caused the problem in the first place. The tension wheel will keep the tension of the belt tight and in place.

Check the oil to see if it is Still a clear color of amber of if it is black in color. If it is a brownish color then there is a bigger problem. When the car is cold open the radiator cap and check the water level. NEVER open that cap when car is hot.

Check back with us if there are more questionsCoolant question for a 98 VW Jetta?Hopefully, you are smart enough to know that you can only use genuine VW/Audi coolant in this car. It is normal for the coolant level to drop alittle bit after a repair since the entire cooling system will have air in it all the way back to the heater core. As the engine heats up, this air is dispelled and the level drops. Coolant level is best checked with engine off and cool. Don't panic. Everything is fine!! Read your manual about the type of coolant, and never believe that there is a universal coolant, This is a big advertising LIE!!!

How to tell if valves are warpped on a 98 escort.?

I have changed the water pump and timing belt! The car will crank perfect several times and then it just spins and will not crank. Help! RandyHow to tell if valves are warpped on a 98 escort.?compression testHow to tell if valves are warpped on a 98 escort.?When you say that it will crank perfect several times and then just spins, it sounds as though the timing belt isn't installed correctly and the engine is kicking the starter drive out.

    Note: The 98 Escort is a free wheeling engine. It's extremely doubtful that the valves are %26quot;warpped.%26quot;

How do i set the timing and get the cylinder to TDC for a 95' Mitsubishi Diamante?

If so, then you pretty much have possibly created a new problem. As far as setting the first cylinder at top dead center, you usually will have a small dot on the crank sprocket (the bottom one) which will be your timing mark. Generally speaking, when you got that sprocket at 12:00, you have the first cylinder at top dead center. The 2 cam sprockets also should have similar marks. As far as where they are supposed to be positioned, I am sorry but I don't know but they should also have a similar ordeal. Try turning the crank sprocket slowly, you will have some hard spots but that's from then the cylinders are about to reach top dead center and are on the %26quot;compression stroke%26quot;.

  • Temperature gauge in car always gets very hot after only driving about five minutes minimum. Any suggestions?

Hello, I own a 2001 mazda protege and the temperature gauge has been acting up. I have recently changed the water pump and timing belt as well as changed the oil and added new coolant. But after driving for about five or ten minutes, the temperature gauge gets very hot. And recently, it reached the max and the coolant began to boil. I have been too afraid to drive it around. Any suggestions why this happens and how I should go about fixing this problem? Thanks.Temperature gauge in car always gets very hot after only driving about five minutes minimum. Any suggestions?Check your thermostat. If it isn't working then your car will overheat. It doesn't sound like a fan because it is overheating too fast. Also when you fill the coolant up in the radiator it is best to do it while the vehicle is running. Leave the cap off and when the car warms up it will cycle the radiator fluid into the engine and give you a chance to fill the radiator up some more. A lot of times people do not do this and it leaves the engine empty of fluid and the radiator full making it harder for the car to cool down or even leaving air pockets that can cause overheating. Also if you pull the thermostat out and boil it in some water when the water starts to boil it should pop open if not then it needs to be replaced.Temperature gauge in car always gets very hot after only driving about five minutes minimum. Any suggestions?Did you bleed the air out of the system when you refilled it ?Temperature gauge in car always gets very hot after only driving about five minutes minimum. Any suggestions?Yea I have advise and that is replace the radiator and thermostat and stop putting tap water in the damn thing! Only use distilled water with the radiator fluid and don't buy the premix shitttt! Tap water has lime deposits in it and they collect around the radiator vents at the top and plug it up to where the fluid can't flow freely through it and it over heats and also it collects around the thermostat and it will stop working and quickly over heat the car and you have to replace it and the distilled water and radiator fluid that you put in will stop this from ever happening again! Once again! NO TAP WATER! Got me? Good luck with that! If you over heat it too much you will blow a head gasket and the oil and water will mix in the oil pan or the radiator or run into one of the cylinders and lock up the engine! Get it fixed!Temperature gauge in car always gets very hot after only driving about five minutes minimum. Any suggestions? All being well as far as the cooling system is concerned. Then I will almost guarantee that the fan sensor is not allowing the fan to cool off the rad . Possibly the fan may also be stuck and the power not making it run. I really think it is fan related.

My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?

the country that i am in does not speak any english, i cannot communicate to buy an aerator as i did not even see one there and after buying the bowl and fish as a first time user, i discovered it was wrong. so i need a solution as to how often to change the water and feed it.. i bought 2 plants as well. Pls do not reply with dumb answers like affordability of aerators-money is not the point here-i want to save the fish and i have realised the folly of getting one in the bowl. Also did not see any fish tanks, so i have to make the best of the situation and ur experience counts. thanks. My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?Do not worry about the aerater since they do nothing for the fsh anyway. Gold fish need Dissolved oxygen not bubbles. Dissolved oxygen enters the water by movement only. Wind, waves, fountains, filters etc. An air stone and pump won't help your fish.

you will need to change the water every three days, and only 1/2 of the water from the bowl not the entire bowl. A turkey baster will help with poo on the bottom of the bowl. Plants are nice and add oxygen however don't crowd out your fish.

You can add dissolved oxygen by simply scooping out water from the bowl and pouring it back into the bowl. Do this a few times a day and your fish will be fine. Also, when changing the water if you use a plastic bag or closed container, shake the water viggerously before putting it back in his bowl. this will add lots of dissolved oxygen to the water.

Also, colder water has more dissolved oxygen than warmer water. Keep your fish in a shaded or cooler spot.My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap? That's a good fish keeper not to buy more goldfish for your bowl. What you could do is try to go online at http://drsfosterandsmith.com and search for the right aerator for your tank. I would also try changing your bowl's water biweekly so ammonia or nitrite won;t spike. Don't drain the water out just some of it. I would feed your goldfish once every two days. Research shows that an underfed goldfish lived healthier and longer, just like humans do.

I hope you find the right pump for your tank.My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?Plants will help, but only during the day when there's light for photosynthesis. Unfortunately, if you have adequate light for photosynthesis, it's probably enough to warm the water, so you're negating any benefits the plants would have provided.

The key to adding oxygen is water movement. If you can get a small fan and aim it at the water surface to create ripples, this will help until you can find a more permanent solution.

In a bowl, they should get water changes more frequently, 2-4 times a week sepending on the size of the fish and volume of water in the bowl. Changing the bowl water for new water will also increase the oxygen, even if only temporarily. My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?If you cannot aerate the tank you should change the water every three or four days. Be sure not to use any chlorinated water as this will injure your fish. You should consider letting the new water stand for a day before you add it. Shake or stir the new water to help oxygenate the new water before you change it.

When feeding your fish only give it as much food as it can eat because any extra food will cause the water to be bad. Feed only once a day or one every other day.

The problem with fish bowls is the water quality gets bad in a few days because of fish waste and low oxygen content. My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap? You can not have an aerator without a pump. The only thin gyou can do is do water changes once a week, if that's not enough due to it being a goldfish and they are notorious for the amount of waste they excrete, then twice a week should be fine. I had a betta in a bowl and I did my water changes on Saturdays. He now has a little tank with a filter and everything. My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap? You can buy filters %26amp; pumps for bowls - they are quite cheap %26amp; any aquarium shop will have them. If you aren't able to buy one though, you will need to keep the fish's water very clean. A half water change once a week should be enough. Make sure you don't overpopulate the bowl, so don't buy any more fish to put in. Use a water conditioner in the clean water you plan to put into the bowl, and make sure it's the same temperature (letting it sit in the same room to age it for a day is a good way). You will need to minimize the amount of gravel you have in the bottom of the bowl - the more gravel, the more waste it will collect, and the amonia in the small volume of water will build up to fatal levels very easily. So, no more than an inch of gravel, and keep it clean by stirring it up a little (don't scare your fish too much) and syphoning out the waste with a thin plastic hose, then remove %26amp; replace half of the water weekly. Any more often %26amp; you could stess your fish to death. Also don't overfeed him - you want to avoid waste food settling in the bottom. It's most important to keep the bowl %26amp; water as clean as you can. Good luck with your fish!My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?Pat on the back for trying to save your fish! I don't know why someone would think you Suggest you change the water every two days. What is the volume of your fish bowl? How many goldfish are there, and what are their approximate size? It sounds like it's hard to find things where you are, how is the quality of water that you put in the bowl (does your tap water smell strongly of chemical? If yes, do you have access to clean rain water or well water?). You may also want to be mindful of how much your feeding your fish, because the uneaten particles will breed bacteria which uses more oxygen (watch that it doesn't get cloudy). My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?Goldfish are not supposed to live in a bowl. That is not a suitable home and it will never ever work.My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?air pumps are a very good way to put oxygen into your tank.

while the bubbles do not put oxygen in the water they help get it there by pushing the water from the bottom to the top and keep it turning over . when the water hits the top of the tank its there it lets go of the co2 and other wast from fish that turn into gas. The water is then free to pick up oxygen again.

so its clear that anyone that says they dont do anything dose not under stand what is going on.My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap? You can take a cup, scoop out some water and pour it back in for a quick fix. You need to keep doing this though. Best to get a filter - get one online and have it mailed to you.My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?So you can't buy the right equipment because it's not available and you can't communicate your needs because of a language barrier. Major problems for you fish!!!

Try bringing a picture to the store of what you need. Perhaps that will help. What country are you in? There are many countries that are very fond of goldfish and should have many stores with proper supplies. Try to find someone who can direct you to the right store in your area and be prepared with pictures of what you need or bring your poor fish with you and ask for help.

The surface area will determine the amount of oxygen that makes it into the water. The larger the surface area, the better the oxygen level. Never fill your bowl completely to the rim but to the largest area of the bowl. In a pinch, you might try transferring them to another container until you can get a proper aquarium with filtration for them. You can use a large plastic bin if you are sure it is clean with no cleaners. The cleaning products are likely to kill the fish. Do a scrub with distilled white vinegar and make sure that it is completely rinsed out before using it. Also, make sure you do water changes probably twice a week depending upon the size of the container and the size of the fish.

There is no substitution for getting the right equipment to properly care for the animals you have in your care. They depend upon you for their life. But until you can find the right equipment, perhaps this will help.

See if Petsmart, or other web dealer, ships to the country you are in.My new goldfish in bowl keeps coming to surface of water, one died, how to aerate without pump? pls help asap?Perhaps instead of a proper fish tank, you can find a suitable storage container?

I was wondering how often I should change my turtles water in the tank since I don't have a pump and filter in it as of yet? I'm planing on getting them this week tho, I have an 80 gallon tank that houses one mississippi map turtle right now I'm also planing to buy one more water turtle this week as well.

When I had a hard pond liner or a kiddy pool with 2 turtles, I cleaned it every 2 weeks.

Till I got my pond. Now I have adopted 3 more.

Aquatic are a life long commitment.

I am no expert, just been blessed with 2 healthy red eared sliders girls for 36 yrs. Got them on mty 18th b-day!

I wish you luck. I have been a mom to Two 36 yr old females for 36 long yrs.( plus an 8,5 male red eared sliders and 2 yr yellow bellied old male adopted from this site now for the last 7 yrs now).

These guys in my 150 gallon pond get 500 plus goldfish a month. Leafy greens and fruits 4 times a week and plus electricity plus I also feed dried cubed blood worms or tubiflex worms at least 5 times a week.

.These guys have a two good heaters ( starting in the fall), a GOOD filter, (UVA/UVB rep light, starting in the fall till end of winter) basking dock yr round.

These turtles in captivity do not hibernate their eating may slow down some but they will not hibernate.

They will bite very very hard. Under 4%26quot; they carry a disease called 'salmonella'. So you must wash after every handling ANY size turtle..

These guys can become cannibalistic and will kill the smallest turtle if there is not enough room and food.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they poop allot. You need a good filter system!

hope I've helped!!!!! and ya almost forgot, never ever put chlorophyll in the water, sellers will not tell you but I have been doing it and believe me, they start having eye problems. their eyes swell and they become..... blind. I mean not really but u must go to a vet.

    Changing timing belt myself :)?

my car needs new timing belt, shop asked $170 for labor (80 for belt and 130 for water pump, i found belt online for 30 and not planing on changing water pump) My buddy who is not mechanic but done alot of work on his cars told me that we can do it ourselves and save $ on labor. He says its only couple bolts and some elbow greasy. I see how it would be easy to put belt on two bottom pulleys but top one might be a problem?. will I have to stretch the belt to fit in or is there some other way. Thanks

by the way its 2004 suzuki forenzaChanging timing belt myself :)?The belt is a tight fit, but not impossible. I'm not familiar with your exact setup, but some cars have an idler pulley that is used to tension the belt. This can be spring loaded or have an adjustment bolt that allows much easier belt installation.

The only %26quot;trick%26quot; to installing the new belt is making sure the timing is correct. That is the crank and cam(s) pulleys are aligned properly. Check the Chilton or Haynes repair manual for how to set them as there are numerous ways that engine manufacturers use to mark the correct positioning. Most have the #! piston @TDC and the #1 cylinder intake valve(s) just closed. Also the location of the distributor or sensor unit that determines the plug firing must be coordinated so that the #1 plug is ready to fire.

BTW: Some engines position the water pump so that the timing belt needs to be removed to get at it. (Subaru does this) It is usually a good idea to replace the water pump while everything is apart, rather than having it go bad a week or month later. (I think that's one of Murphy's laws: A part will go bad right after the parts in front of it are replaced!) Water pumps are cheap compared to many other parts. I'd also replace all fan belts as you put the engine back together if they aren't pretty new. (Removing and reinstalling used belts tends to stretch them and amplify any cracks that were starting to develop.)Changing timing belt myself :)?Timing belts are normally pretty difficult and time consuming to put on. They normally swap the water pump out at the same time because it is so hard to get to normally but is easy while you are doing the timing belt. And it is normally the next thing to wear out. I would highly recommend doing the water pump at the same time.Changing timing belt myself :)?Yes, you can do it yourself, it's not rocket science....but neither is it as simple as replacing a fan belt. If the shop wants $170 for labor, they expect it's going to take professionals several hours to do the job. You don't have to stretch the belt to fit, there should be an adjuster...but you will have to make sure that several timing marks are all lined up with the correct reference marks. This after all is the belt which coordinates all the timing in the engine. The reason the water pump is replaced at the same time is that they have a similar life span to a timing belt, and you're right in there. Replace it now and you'll thank yourself later.

If your buddy has experience with timing belts, then go ahead and it will be a good learning experience. At least get yourself a shop manual and see what you're getting into. OTOH, the shop has quoted you a fair price.

Remove water pump bolts and break seal and let the pump drain. Then using a gasket scraper scrape the remaining gasket from old water pump untill surface is clean. People have different methods of preping the area for new gasket. I usually will score the metal with a wire brush. Then apply gasket, sealant and bolt on.

  • How to perform water changes for 10 gallon tank?

I have a ten gallon tank with 3 mollies and a bottom feeder. I have a shelter ornament and two plants and gravel. How do I perform a water change? We concluded that my tank is infected with ick so how much should I change? How do I get the tempature just right? Where should I store my fish while performing the water change?

I don't have a pump thing or a tube or anything. Should I buy one?How to perform water changes for 10 gallon tank? You should definitely purchase a small gravel-vac; not only can you use it to vacuum the gravel, but it makes it immensely easier to siphon water from the tank. They are cheap, and for a 10-gallon you should go with the smaller type.

With an ich-infected tank, you should change 50% of the water every two to three days, also (if available) while using ich treatment. as for the temperature of the water you're putting back in, judging the temperature by the way it feels is adequate. Make sure that you have a sample of the water that is already in the tank to compare the new water with; if it's indistinguishable in temperature or only slightly cooler or warmer, it is safe to add to the tank. A good trick, if you need o fill up several containers to replace the water you take out, is to leave the faucet running to maintain a constant temperature each time you fill a container, instead of turning off the water and finding the right temperature over and over again. If you're using bottled or other water, make sure they all come from the same place (for temperature reasons) and are warm enough to be used with fish.

You do not have to remove your fish from the tank; it isn't recommended for a routine water change. It stresses the fish out more if you move them than if you just go about changing the water while they're in the tank. Just make sure you don't scoop up or suck out any of the fish. How to perform water changes for 10 gallon tank? You do not have to take the fish out of the tank. You should have a water heater and a thermometer to make the temp at 76-78 degrees f. Do a 25% water change and get mardel medication for ick. Then you don't have to remove the carbon from the filter or raise the temp, this stresses the fish out. The mardel works for 30 days so you don't have to keep measuring and adding. After 3 weeks do another 25% water change. How to perform water changes for 10 gallon tank?Get water in big bowls guess for about a 25% percent water change the day before. The reason for doing this is because so it has time for the harmful bacteria to get out, and it lets it get room temp.

Then the next day when you go to change it get water out about four inch from the top is 25%. Then put the water you had sitting there over night in. then put in a teaspoon of water conditioner.

I would recommend you get a heater so that if the water is too cold the heater will automatically come on. those fish should be able to live in water from 72-85 degrees Fahrenheit. well hope i helped and good luck. =)

    F150 engine cooling problem?

Began over heating, changed thermostat. still over heating...found and cleaned *strained bird* on the radiator. still overheating, changed water pump. Still over heating.

unsure if a hose is collapsing. have yet to flush motor and radiator.

What gives? is there air in this system, and how does one remove it? is there a bleeder valve?

Thank you in advance!F150 engine cooling problem?check and see if there is anything stuck between the radiator and your a/c condenser. are the heater hoses getting hot? if not you are air locked and have to bleed the system=i usually use one of the heater core hoses to bleed by taking one off when it is running and purging the air out. but i would check a shop manual also because im not that familiar with the 4.2--dont see many with the v6F150 engine cooling problem?Check the cap,you didn't change that it could be the problem and fill it with the engine running so you see whats going on with the pump to make sure it's pulling in the water or if you get air bubbles, you could have a leak in the head gasket were oil and water are not mixing, that's the good news.I have the v8 and it still runs. You have any leaks?F150 engine cooling problem?try the fan cluth on the fan if u spin it if it spins more then a few times thats ur problem

    Serpentine belt squeaking?

how do I adjust. I just loosened tension on pulley to change water pump now I can't get it to stop squeaking. The long bolt that adjusts tensioner pulley turns real easy. It's a 1%26quot; wide by 3/16 bar - 24 inches long. How to set the timing and firing order for a 95 dodge spirit 3.0L?

I helped a friend change his water pump and when it was time to put the belt back on (after lunch) I noticed that the markings on the pulleys were not in the right spot. How do you set the timing? Where are the marks suppose to be and any pictures would help? thank you so much, greatly appriciated. How to set the timing and firing order for a 95 dodge spirit 3.0L?There are 2 timing marks, - one on camshaft pulley, and one on the crank pulley, - they must both point to center on top of pulley-- this %26quot;center%26quot; lines up with crank and cam pulleys (centers)-- if you were to run a streight edge all the way up from top to bottom , - (is not streight up)! So you pull cover off bottom again so that you can see the pulleys(%26amp; loosen idler pulley-- after you have crank at tdc)-- If you didn't turn the crank or camshaft a lot, it shouild be close to right place, so you can loosen idler pulley, and slip belt over a notch at a time till you have camshaft pulley turned up to line up with crank pulley. Getting timing right will be %26quot;automatic%26quot;,-- if you get the timing marks lined up right! Reason I say you can %26quot;roll one of the two pulleys%26quot; into place without turning ( have to turn one completely over a whole revolution!)!, - is that if you did not intentionally turn crank or cam, it will not have moved more than maybe 3-4 teeth (from spring tension on valves-- possibly being off center might make it roll down to release presure from spring)! I must tell you it is very hard to get the camshaft pulley exactly lined up on some cars, as they did not put timing mark where you can see it easily-- on later models I guess they figured it out! I had problems on my 93' Acclain (with basically same engine)-- I bought it with engine timed one tooth off on camshaft pulley, - After changing warterpump, thermostat and radiator (radiator off another car I had)-- pump was leaking so it needed it, - but engine still ran too hot, after it blew heqadgasket, - I pulled it apart and cleaned up and put new gasket in, -- and put timing in order with valve cover off, (to see if it was in time and would run. -- and discovered that it was running one tooth off (easily seen with valve cover off), - when I got done, it has run %26quot;cool as a cucumber%26quot; ever since%26quot;!

Note,-- If you did not mess with distributer, it will still be in time, (and you don't need to worry about timing it,) - %26amp; firing order, -will still be right! You can also pull cap off distributer, and look at the rotor, - when it points to #1 spark plug wire positon on cap, it is near tdc! After pulley loosened, you can slip belt over till the bottom one lines up with it! #1cylijder is the one at front of engine which is the pasenger side (where pulleys drive accesories)-- since engine is in %26quot;crossways%26quot;! You could go to library and see how it is set up, - or if you already have a manual it is in there, - if not,--- go buy a %26quot;Haynes Auto Repair%26quot; manual -- available at most %26quot;better%26quot; auto parts supply houses, - (I iget mine at AutoZone)! -- Cost is $20 or less, - and is a total repair manual which has information and illustrations for fixing everyhing except the transmission! Just get for your year and model (the manual # is.. 30060) - covers 89 through 95 models -- both Dodge %26amp; Plymouth! -- Don't settle for Chiltons, -- (it is second best)!!

You can either use a timing light, or just do it until it sounds %26quot;about%26quot; right :) i'd recommend using a timing light. if it uses a coil pack, timing is set by the computer. How to set the timing and firing order for a 95 dodge spirit 3.0L?http://autorepair.about.com/library/firi

i have a 99 Civic Dx (same engine as yours, currently with 167k miles, had the belt changed at about 130ish k miles)

The belt it self is cheap its about $50, but since its somewhat labor intensive to get to and change the belt, some people will rip you off.

I live in southern california, specifically the san fernando valley,

I went to Kolbe Honda on Reseda blvd in Northridge,CA ( i pretended to know nothing about honda's to see if the guy would give me a fair price or not) He said %26quot; its going to cost more money because yours in Dual Cam%26quot; and this was a factory certified tech supposedly , (i was laughing in my head because i know for sure its a single cam [d16y7]) anyways he quoted me more than $850 for labor alone, not including the water pump. (in my opinion a total rip-off, and idiot).

Next to get another estimate i went to a Honda/Acura Specialist shop they quoted $450 including the water pump but not the belt.

I still wanted to see if i could get it cheaper so i still shopped around and called another dealership further away (about 100 miles away).

I went to Robertson Palmdale Honda, The guy KNEW what he was talking about and gave me a estimate of $300 over the phone, when i went to the service department after tax it was $325 (me supplying the belt.)

all in all it cost me $375 for the labor including all necessary parts including the water pump.

point is shop around or else you could get stuck paying more for the same service, BTW all 3 were factory certified honda technicians. How much should I expect to pay for a new timing belt for a 1997 Honda Civic DX Hatchback? If you go to the dealer, prepare to pay big money. You can go to a good Honda specialist and have it done for around $300. The reason the other items should be included is that they are normal wear items that are easily replaced when a timing belt service is being done. How much should I expect to pay for a new timing belt for a 1997 Honda Civic DX Hatchback?around 350 for all

How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?

I have a car that we changed the water pump and alternator/air conditioning belt on. Now when I crank it it goes thump thump thump like its going to stop running at first. If I give it gas it sounds fine except the belt starts squeaking. After a few seconds it acts fine. It only does this when its first cranked and if its been itting for more than about 10 minutes since it was last cranked. When the water pump was changed it was very hard to get to. We had to take off the air filter, timing belt, Airconditoner belt. Im really sure the timing is right cause it drives really good. I was just wondering what could be causing this and how to fix it. One easy way to find out is to go to auto parts store and get a can of spray %26quot;Belt Dressing%26quot; about a 3.00 item

With your motor running spray alll the belts you can see.

Wear some protective eye wear when you do this.

If it is just the belt (being new) the squeaking should stop.

If that is not the problem, you may have your belts too tight and some adjustment is needed. Lets hope the spray works out for you. Enjoy. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?Change or adjust the fan belt. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?A belt that has gotten antifreeze or water on will be noisy. With new belts, they will stretch and not pull and the sqeaking is due to slipage. New belts need to be retightened after two weeks and sometimes done two or three times before they settle in. If your car has an automatic tensionor (spring loaded) the spring may have lost its power, or broke, or the belt could be too long. The squeaking right at start-up is the altenator requiring the extra *unph* to put back into the battery what you took out on startup.

Is the thump, thump, thump at startup the engine turning over that hard? Did you double check your timing marks before and after your work? Have the timing checked.

When is it necessary to replace the timing belt and water pump on a 2001 Mazda Protege?

I'm looking to buy a used 2001 Protege. The car is nearing 75000mi, but the owner has not changed the timing belt or the water pump. I found out that it is recommended to change the timing belt at 60000mi, but couldn't find anything on the water pump. Realistically, when would I need to replace these, and any idea how much it would cost?

Thanks! When is it necessary to replace the timing belt and water pump on a 2001 Mazda Protege? That could have either the 1.6 liter or 2.0 liter engine.

My information shows that if you have the 1.6 liter, at least you don't have to worry about bending valves against pistons if the belt breaks -- you'll just be stuck out on the road until you can get it towed and fixed. Not so with the 2.0 which is an %26quot;interference%26quot; engine. So if you DO have the 2.0, pay attention -- you don't want an expensive breakdown! You're on borrowed time at 75K.

For both engines, Mazda recommends that you replace the timing belt every 60K miles. Gates (a major replacement supplier) seems to think these belts will go 105K. Since it's a factory belt, stick with 60K.

As for the water pump, it's often one of those %26quot;while you're already in there%26quot; sort of things when you're doing a timing belt.

60K makes it a tougher call, especially with the better quality of water pump bearings and seals. If your interval were 80K ~ 100K as is true on some cars, I'd say %26quot;go for it%26quot; without blinking. As cheap as it'll be (it's really just the price of the pump), and it was my set of wheels, I'd do it anyway, even at 60K, if it needed to be pulled to do the belt.

  • How to change a 2003 Honda CRV water pump?

You should purchase a repair manual. Autozone should have one in stock. Just read up on the water pump remove/replace section.

I think it will probably say something like

Raise the vehicle and support it on jack stands. Remove the wheel (on the side of the vehicle where the belts are)

It is a really good idea to replace water pump and timing belt at the same time. If you don't know how to replace a timing belt... you may be better off paying a mechanic. When you take the timing belt off, there is no room for error. You can't be off by one cog or else the job will have to be done over.

But if you insist on doing this job, you'll want to start will the engine at top dead center number one piston on compression stroke. If you are already lost. Stop and take your car to a mechanic. If you are still with me - drain the coolant and start taking the drive belt(s) off, you know - power steering, alternator, air conditioner, etc. Once these are out of the way, you can start taking off brackets that are in the way. You'll probably have to support the engine with a jack while you take the engine mount out of the way. If this all sounds hard, it is. But you haven't gotten to the really hard part yet. You have to make sure that the cam or cams don't move after you take the timing belt off. You'll need to mark the position of the crankshaft and cam or cams if you have dual over head cams. if you do have dual overhead cams, this makes it even tougher. Because they have to be perfectly positioned so that the crank and both cams are at top dead center compression stroke number one piston.

How much does it cost to change timing belt?

I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla that's close to 118,000 miles. I just need an idea on how much would it cost to do it including and excluding water pump. I changed the timing belt once when it was 58,000.How much does it cost to change timing belt?I'm not an expert on this car but you generally need to replace timing belts every 60,000 miles, so you are just coming due. It will usually cost more at a dealer for a timing belt replacement than at a neighborhood mechanic, assuming you have a neighborhood mechanic that you trust for such work. I would expect a dealer to charge $500-750 for a timing belt replacement and a local mechanic to charge $350-500.

It is very likely that the mechanic (either at the dealer or an independent) will recommend replacing other parts, including belts, rollers, gaskets and the water pump. It's usually fairly difficult to get the timing belt off so it makes sense to replace other things that are in the vicinity of the timing belt. Therefore, don't be surprised if there is a list of other items that the mechanic recommends for replacement.

When I replace a timing belt, I almost always replace the water pump and I check carefully if any rollers or tensioning components look questionable. It's far easier to replace these things now and save the possibility of an inconvenient failure. But I hear you if you can't afford to tack on $200 of miscellaneous parts. How much does it cost to change timing belt?go to your local mechanicHow much does it cost to change timing belt?cheap I hear, not sure about the exact amountHow much does it cost to change timing belt?Cost varies, depending on accessories your car has, specifically: A/C, 2WD or 4WD. I can assume your car is 2WD with a/c.

The timing belt itself (the part only, cost %26lt;$50.00), but the installation requires removal of entire front of the engine. So the big cost is labor, probably $200 to $300. Since the water pump and timing belt are next to each other make sure to have the water pump replaced at the same time. You wouldn't want to go back 6 months from now and pay $50 for water pump and another $200 to $300 in labor. How much does it cost to change timing belt?when you do the timing belt its every 90K miles.

put the rocks back in and fill the tank to the 1 1/2 gal. mark. and try to get the temp of the new water as close to the water with the beta as possible. fish don't do well with drastic water temp. changes. add the solution to the water you should have that gets rid of chlorine, and maybe it has a stress-coat in it, which would be the best...then dump the beta, and the water he's in, into the tank. don't worry that some old dirty water went in. it's filled with some good bacteria that the fish is used to, and will help %26quot;establish%26quot; the new water.

Try to stick it in the gravel and get all the nasty old food and crap from inside the gravel. for a two gallon tank you could get an air pump probably under $10 and air-ate the water, your Betta would thank you for it, if you do get a pump then get an old plastic lid and poke holes in it, place the air tube through the middle and attach an air stone underneath. Place all this under the gravel and you will have a home made under gravel filter. If you had the under gravel filter then you could do a 30% weekly water change and the fish would be happy. I wouldn't recommend doing a 100% water change simply because it is very stressful on the fish to be moved around. So if you don't get the air pump, use just the hose to vacuum the gravel and do like an 80% change or something. Betta's can live in very murky water with no oxygen and breath oxygen from the air. In their native habitat they live in small pools of disgusting water. They will do better if the water is oxygenated and ammonia and nitrate are kept in check. The ammonia and nitrate are the reason you do water changes. The underground filter is a biological filter that breaks down ammonia and nitrate using bacteria. Therefore you wouldn't have to change as much water if you had an under gravel filterHow often to totally change the tank water with a betta fish?I'm not quiet sure what a gravel pump is. I would do at least 50% water change once a week, and full change once a month. If you can put an alge eater in there that would greatly help too. Yes, you can put other fish in with a Betta. It'll be fine. How often to totally change the tank water with a betta fish?Oh, get a siphon.

A skinny one, any clean clear plastic tube will do.

You dunk the whole thing in the water, cover one end with your thumb, (have the bucket lower to the ground, than the tank.)

    The end with your thumb goes over into the bucket, the water from the tank will flow up the tube and down into the bucket. Vacuum the rocks. %26lt;*)))%26lt;

I wouldn't advise, changing more than 50 % of the water in the same week. If you clean the tank once a week 10% water change should be perfect.

    Also your never supposed to replace the rocks, fish get used to their own grem system, replacing the rocks really screws them up!How often to totally change the tank water with a betta fish?You should never remove all of the water from a tank. The fish need bacteria in the water and gravel to destroy the ammonia they produce. If you change all the water then remove all of the bacteria. Therefore the fish are swimming around in a sterile environment- the ammonia burns their gills and eyes. %26quot;No fun for little Harpo.%26quot;

25% water changes should be more than enough to keep a two gallon healthy. Just use a cup if you have problems with the siphon. It is really not that much water. You can stir up the gravel and fish out large debris with a net.How often to totally change the tank water with a betta fish? The gravel pump will work if you carefully cut the end off of it. You will need it short enough to completely submerge the lager end of it after removing about a quarter of the water. Don't ever clean the whole tank or you will kill the beneficial bacteria growing in the tank. How often to totally change the tank water with a betta fish?Despite amaranth's contentions that you shouldn't completely clean out your bowl. The bacteria which convert ammonia need a lot of oxygen to do it. That would only happen in your gravel if you had an undergravel filter (UG). There is not much oxygen in the bowl water, and no water circulation even if there was. (Bettas breathe air from the surface.) This is how UG, sponge, coerner, and biowheel filters remove ammonia. Clean your gravel completely as the the decaying food, and crap out weigh an good bacteria.

What you need to do is the following:

0)Leave a jar of water out for 2 day,or treat with something to remove the cholorine.

1)Make ure your new water is the same temp as your old water. (A figer test will do fine.)

2)Remove betta into a cup of bowl water and cover.

3)Dump water (it's great for plants), and throughly rinse the bowl and gravel until you can't see gunk in it, or smell it.

4)Add in the new water and your betta

You should clean a 1-2 gallon bowl twice a week 3-5 gallons once a week. Try not to over feed your betta. (see betta talk food, and water)How often to totally change the tank water with a betta fish?NEVER 100% clean the tank. you'll get rid of good germs and your fish could go through shock. =( the first will harm the water, and the second can kill your fish.

you can also get a tank %26quot;vacumme%26quot; to clean the rocks. basically, you can use this to suck up the bad water / gunk that sits on top of the rocks, without scaring your betta!

once you put new water in, you may want to think about treating it! you can buy aquarium salt and Stress Coat that can help the water and your little fishie!

good luck with it all!How often to totally change the tank water with a betta fish?Just replace the water 25-30%. Don't ever change the water 100%, because it would make the fish stress. Don't over feed the fish, the food could pollute the water.
