How often should I change my Goldfish water?

I have 2 small goldfish in a 15ltr tank. We have a filter/pump. We feed them 3 pellets each, twice a day. The water, so far is clear - we've had them about 2 weeks. There are only artificial plants, stones and ornaments in the tank.

How often should we change the water? Do we need to change it completely or just 'top it up'?How often should I change my Goldfish water? That's very small for 2 goldfish- they might not live very long. But anyway, you should be doing a partial water change (about 30% of the water) every week. How often should I change my Goldfish water?I suggest scrapping this 15 litre tank.

Get a 100 litre and change water every week about 25%.

Goldfish live long and need big tanks or ponds there produce alot of waste. How often should I change my Goldfish water?Goldfish grow to 12%26quot; or more if well kept. If they live you will have to get a much bigger tank. 50gals. or more.

How do i remove rear brake drum?

Im a novice at mechanics.I can do small repairs like front brakes, alternator change, water pumps, things like that.I have never changed rear brakes. How do I remove the hub on the rear?is it suppose to just pull off or what.If so it must be really stuck.please help if you can.Its a 95 buick skylark! How do i remove rear brake drum?some brake drums will come off easily by just wiggling it and some of them you have to loosen the adjuster or tapping it with a hammer at the sides.good luckHow do i remove rear brake drum?porkchop its pretty easy on that car model. make sure you dont have the emergency brake pulled 1st, there is a possability you might need to back the brake pads off iff they are too deep in the drum likely not. using a block of wood and a hammer wrap the side of the drum in aprx 3 spots. the wood is to shield the impact to the drum. the drum will likely pop free and be easily slid off. a shot of wd40 around the round center will help a lot. be carefull and wear a dust mask when you do this as brake dust will fly around.

How often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies?

My children were bought 2 little goldfish in a teeny 6ltr (1.5 gal) tank last week with under gravel filter - we added an air pump with air stone to make things more comfortable for the 2 goldfish - i have been changing about 25 - 30 percent of the water every day (adding dechlorinator to the new water) if is becoming a bit of a pain - i dont want the fish to die, but wonder when it will be safe to cut down on the water changes?

any advice on new tank set up care welcome!!!

many thanks in advance!!!

Emi and the twins fishHow often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies?Hi Emi. I also have twins with small tanks (each got their own). They keep a betta in the tank with the underground filter and air pump. We completely do a 100% water change once a week and there is only 1 little low bioload fish in each tank.

Unfortunately, goldfish are not as easy to take care of. A goldfish can live for 20 yrs and gets up to 8%26quot; when taken care of properly. They require 10 gallons per goldfish and extra filtration because of the high output of ammonia (through decaying food as they are messy eaters, urine, feces and simply through exhalation of oxygen through their gills!). In a 20 gallon tank with 2 goldfish, a filter meant for a 30 gallon tank is recommended, with weekly water changes of about 25 - 30%. While it is somewhat true that fish will only grow to their tank size (called stunting), it causes internal organ damage and early death. A water testing kit that includes a test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate is necessary. Ammonia is toxic and burns the fins, skin, eyes and worst of all..the gills. The next step in a cycled tank after the ammonia spike is nitrite. Nitrite lasts a few weeks and is also toxic. It creates long term problems as the fish damage their ability to do an oxygen exchange and they die of asphyxiation. The third step in cycling is the creation of nitrate. Nitrate should be kept at 20 ppm in a cycled tank and will eat up the other bacteria as quickly as they form as long as you do the weekly water changes.

Because of this, my 6 yr old twin boys were only allowed to get bettas. Hope this helps. How often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies?I think you only need to clean out the tank about once every 2 weeks because the filters and pumps will clean most of the bad stuff in the water. I have 2 fish in a 7ltr tank and only clean it out once every 2 weeks. Hope i helped xHow often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies?everytime it gets dirtyHow often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies?Well first of all, one gallon is way to small and they are not going to last very long. In that small you want to do a water change like every dayHow often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies?Considering the tank is so small, I檇 say at least three times a week.

My goldfish are in 20Litre tank, and I have to do a 50% water change every 4-5 days to keep the ammonia levels down.

Considering you have an under gravel filter, I檇 suggest buying a test kit for Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite so you can keep an eye on how the filters working. How often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies? You have a filter and a air pumb, so u can change 30% every week, do not overfeed the fish, bcuze the more u feed the more the water will become dirty. How often do i need to change the water in a NEW 6ltr tank with 2 goldies?I suggest getting a water testing kit and using it to determine how long to go between water changes. Personally I let the nitrates get to 45ppm and do a 20% change -- in my 10 gallon tank with a good size pink gourami, a small algae eater and a male Betta, this is usually around six weeks.

Since you mentioned advice on new tank setup and care, I'll assume this is a new tank. If it is, then you will go through a break in cycle which can last as long as six weeks. I've found that http://freshaquarium.about.com is a good source for answering my questions on my aquariums and fish. You might want to check their articles on cycling a new tank

How to remove drivebelt tensioner. 99 Taurus SE 3.0L OHV?

Changing water pump and want to remove the drivebelt tensioner to better access the bolts underneath it. I have a Haynes for this model but can not find any information so far on removing the tensioner.

Any help is appreciated.

BradHow to remove drivebelt tensioner. 99 Taurus SE 3.0L OHV?Remove the belt first, just use a closed end wrench on the bolt for the pulley to release the tension. After the belt is of there is one bolt in the middle of the tensioner pivot, remove that bolt and the tensioner will come right off.How to remove drivebelt tensioner. 99 Taurus SE 3.0L OHV?The tension pulley has a square hole in its center. Use the square end of a ratchet wrench to unload the tension pulley pressure while removing the serpentine belt. No need to remove the tension pulley, just unload the spring on the tension pulley by applying reverse force on the tension pulley to loosen the serpentine belt.

Should be in the Haynes manual.

When should I change my Timing belt?

I have a 1999 plymouth voyager that hass 155,000 miles, and i know i should be changing the timing belt pretty soon, but what i want to know is at what mileage are these timing belts suppose to be changed by?And how much is the cost or more or less what would it cost?and im guessing i would need to change the water pump at the same time..When should I change my Timing belt?First you have to determine which engine you have.

You can have a 2.4 4 cyl, or a 3.0 V6. Both use a timing belt, and a belt driven water pump.

On 1994 %26amp; prior models, replace at 60,000 mile intervals. On 1995-96 CA vehicles, replacement at 60,000 mile intervals is recommended but not required. On all other models except 1997-99 Caravan, Town %26amp; Country %26amp; Voyager, replace at 100,000 mile intervals (if not previously replaced). On 1997-98 Caravan %26amp; Voyager models, manufacturer does not recommend a specific maintenance interval. On 1999 Caravan %26amp; Voyager models, inspect at 60.000 miles %26amp; replace if required, then inspect again at 90,000 miles and replace if this was not done previously, then inspect again at 120,000 miles.

The 3.3 and 3.8 V6's use a chain which requires replacement only if broken.

Since the belts have to be removed to gain access to the water pump, it is a convenient time to replace it, the thermostat and do a good coolant flush. When should I change my Timing belt?yeah your slightly overdue...yes replace the water pump as well.

Belst usually last for 60-90 thousand miles..depending..cost is depending on the place you take it to..dealer is around 600 bucks the last time I had one checked on..Im sure its cheaper at your mom and pop shops..When should I change my Timing belt?50,000mi is what they suggest. Time for the belt and the water pump. When should I change my Timing belt?if it aint broke dont fix it!!When should I change my Timing belt?Your water pump as little to do with the water pump but you should change the water pump if your coolant isn't running through the car like it should... But your timing belt should be change if it's slipping and your cam shaft isn't pushing the pushrod correctly and your pistons aren't firing in order...When should I change my Timing belt? Most knowledgeable people will recommend changing the water-pump when changing the timing belt, because it's a relatively cheap part, but a lot of labour to change. Most of the work to change the t-belt is also the same work involved in changing the water-pump on most FWD cars. Change the Water Pump too.

60,000 miles or 100,000km is the usual recommended interval. When should I change my Timing belt?every 80,000 miles i replace my timeing belt

You have to pretty much disassemble the who front end of the motor to get to it. If you have never done it and if you do not have much automotive experiance, Take it to a shop and have it done. It's better for you in the long run simply because if something gets messed up, the shop needs to take care of it. If you screw it up well you either have to go back in there or take it to a shop to have them fix it anyway. Now if you have a buddy thats good with cars have him help you with the project. 2 cases of beer and a pizza later and you'll be up and running again.

I have a 98 Jeep Wrangler and wanted to know how to change the radiator and water pump. how long will it take?

Not a job for a novice. There are several panels that must be removed from this Jeep to extract the radiator and several components to be removed from front of engine to extract water pump...If you are not depending on this for sole transportation then there is a way to learn. Buy a Chilton's or Haynes manual on the vehicle. It is a repair guide written for the laymen that includes pictures. It is a bumper to bumper guide for complete and total tear down and rebuild of the entire vehicle divided into specific sections easy to define.

I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic with a 4.3 liter engine I'd like to replace the water pump on the truck?

where would I be able to find information on how to change out a water pump for that specific type of vehicle and year, as well I had got a stain on the body from road work it seems to be cement how could I take spots out without damaging the body's paint? What are my options thanks...I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic with a 4.3 liter engine I'd like to replace the water pump on the truck?this is not that big a deal, this engine is 3/4 ths of a chevy sbc 305, which is basically the same as small block chevys from 1955 forward-the good thing is that this can be done quite easily in the car, just remember this engine has a serp belt, so take note of where the belts go and how the pulleys are aligned with all the accessories. DO NOT break the seal on the a/c unit, just take off the compressor and set it to the side, same with the power steering and alt. Once you get through the pulley system, just remove 4 bolts on the front of the pump, remove it, you have already drained the coolant, and keep it, either reuse it or dispose of properly, remove the pump, and clean off the old gaskets from the front of the engine block. Take the old pump with you, get one that is the exact same as the one you took off-do not allow the old pump to be taken by the parts store, buy an all new unit, not a rebuilt, and keep your old one until the new one is installed and functions properly-I know, I am probably overly protective, but many times I have brought home what appeared to be the correct pump, and it did not work, then I did not have my old one to look at to see exactly what i needed...good luck, as far as the paint, well, use a solvent to soften whatever is stuck to the paint, if it in fact is concrete, not cement as that is the powder that concrete is made from, then try a little vinegar, it is slightly acidic, will dissolve the concrete, and the spot can be removed gently, hopefully without chipping the pain-here is the good news, concrete does not chemically bond with paint, so you should have no problem...good luck, be careful.I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic with a 4.3 liter engine I'd like to replace the water pump on the truck?listen to old guy i use oven cleaner for some grim dont leave on for long period and rince with water and soft cloth after.

  • How make a piston pump pulse water and be able to adjust the water speed?

    Hi

I need to pulse water at 1200 pulses a min (that's 2 a sec). I would do this using a piston pump attached to an offset gear and a motor. The max amount of water i would need in one pulse is 1.5ml.

The water would then be pulsed up through a tube and out of a 1mm diameter hole.

However i want to be able to adjust how fast the water comes out of the hole. I cant adjust the 1mm hole. And because i need 1200 pulses a min i cant adjust the frequency of the pump to change the water speed.

Does anyone have any ideas how to go about doing this?

Would i need to use a flow regulator or a pressure regulator and if so where would it go?

Any ideas would be great! Many Thanks. How make a piston pump pulse water and be able to adjust the water speed? This sound a lot like fuel injection. It seems to me that you want to vary the stroke of the piston, which varies the volume and the velocity, as the diameter is fixed. However I think the approach below is easier to design and control.

Think about the fuel injection for cars. Here the fluid is constant pressure, and a valve is operated by a solenoid for a given time of a few milliseconds. Generally though, the time is varied, which varies the volume, but not the pressure. The common rail is actually an accumulator which can have the pressure adjusted, so it is constant but adjustable pressure to give the 1.5ml volume through the 1mm orifice. The solenoid valve releases a known quantity by the open timing, the 1mm diameter controlling the flow. Note that the %26quot;high%26quot; pressure pump maintains the pressure in the accumulator common rail, and the regulator for the rail can return unused fuel to the tank. The valve is driven by a timer that has a variable pulse width to measure the volume. A special electrical driver device is needed for the valve. The timer can be triggered at regular intervals, or by some event like the cylinder position in a car is used. The accumulator pressure and its pressure pump are separate issues. It seems the pressure is calculated for something like 3 pulses a second of up to 1.5ml through a 1mm diameter orifice. This will be a relatively low pressure (compared to a car or diesel system), but best for you to determine that pressure yourself.

The tubing to the orifice will be elastic, and smooth out the flow, so if you need sharply defined pulses of fluid the valve is close to the orifice.

It seems to me that some components of a car or diesel common rail system could help in providing the complex parts cheaply. These would be adapted to your needs. The link below explains some more detail.

An alternative to this is to use a common rail system, but devise a mechanically operated valve to release the pulses through the orifice.

How often should I change the water in my fish tank?

I have two small goldfish in a two gallon tank. It doesn't have a filter, just a bubbler/air pump. Right now I'm changing the water about every three days, but I wanted to know if I really have to change it that much. How often should I change the water in my fish tank?Gold fish, like most fish, require 20-30% of the water changed per week. This is with a filter. Really, Goldfish grow big and will need a larger tank, they also really need a filter. These fish are %26quot;messy%26quot; and require frequent substrate vacumes and the regular water changes as I've mentioned above.

Good luck and happy fish keeping ! :)How often should I change the water in my fish tank? With a tank that size that has two goldfish in it, you should be changing the water daily. Goldfish are messy, messy fish whose waste produces a lot of poisonous ammonia, more so than your average tetra or betta. Even a small amount of ammonia will kill your fish, or at the very least leave them susceptible to nasty diseases. With a filter, you could go for three or four days without changing the water, but ideally, you should work on moving your fish into a larger tank - 10 gallons per goldfish is an absolute minimum, some even go so far as to say 20 gallons per fish. In an appropriate-sized tank, partial (10-25% volume) water changes are only needed weekly, with maybe a full change every six months or so. With good care and plenty of swimming room a goldfish can live for well over 10 years, and grow to be over 8 inches long. How often should I change the water in my fish tank?Your goldfish will have misserably terrible live living in that little of a tank. They need to be in atleast a 20 gallon tank with a filter that is running 200gph. • How do you replace a water pump in a 1995 Toyota Camry?

My Camry is overheating and I am assuming it is the water pump. I already changed the thermostat and that was no help. When I turn the heater on to cool off the engine, it blows cold air or the temp of the air outside most of the time and seldomly hot air. I bought a water pump, but I am not sure if this is something I can do?How do you replace a water pump in a 1995 Toyota Camry?Got to give you credit Crystal for even thinking of tackling this. You already did the thermostat, good for you! It can be a difficult to replace the pump. You have to remove belts and unless the new pump has a pulley on it you will have to take the pully off the old pump. You ought to get a Haynes or Clymer repair manual for the Camry and follow it step by step. If you are going to go through with it. BUT.... it might not be the waterpump. Whenever a modern car overheats the 1st thing you want to rule out is a blown head gasket. Camry's are not known for blowing head gaskets though. It could be several other things. Like for instance the fan not turning on. You must put a diagnosis to the problem before you start replacing things. I found a Camry Forum for you. Ask some question? Ask how to know if the head gasket is blown? Also search the question/answers for a problem like yours. The waterpump might be tough to change. http://www.camryforums.com/m_4566/tm.htm Good Luck. How do you replace a water pump in a 1995 Toyota Camry?I don't know how YOU do it, but as for ME, I hire a mechanic. How do you replace a water pump in a 1995 Toyota Camry?Step 1: Find a manHow do you replace a water pump in a 1995 Toyota Camry?get it fixed at a mechanic shop and make sure ur getting a deal ; professional work is done by pros and you get what u pay for less time and less worry and less mistakes that can cost money by guessing buying wrong parts and gaskets

How long should the Second timing belt & water pump last on a '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse?

This car is the GS (non-turbo) model with the larger 2.4 L engine and now has 140,000 miles on it . The owners manual says to change the first one around 60k - I did that one on time. But, then I've heard that the parts that are put in at 60k last alot longer than the originals. How long should they last? And, when do I need to change the timing belt %26amp; water pump again? Thank you!How long should the Second timing belt %26amp; water pump last on a '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse? It's time for replacing another timing belt and water pump, the sooner the better. This should have been done at 120,000 miles. You should go with what the owner's manual says if you want to keep your car for a long time. when timing belts breaks, rods and pistons will be F***** and you will have to dole out lots of dough. spend a little now or a lot later. to avoid being double charged for labor when replacing timing belt you should consider changing water pump too as water pump and timing belt are located in the same area. How long should the Second timing belt %26amp; water pump last on a '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse?I would definately consider replacing the timing belt soon. Japanese cars normaly need the timing changed sooner than other autos. The enginse are made of lighter metals so if the timing breaks it will bend up your rods and dent up your pistons which is really expensive and time consuming to get fixed. It is better and cheaper to be safe and early than the alternative. Not sure about the water pump however.

Good luck. How long should the Second timing belt %26amp; water pump last on a '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse? It's best to do the timing belt every 60,000 miles as called for in the vehicle maintenance charts. I would replace the water pump at 120,000 miles if it makes it that long. Don't forget to change the timing belt pulleys and hydraulic tensioner which I prefer to do every belt change to avoid come backs. The 420A motor is well known for the bad head gasket design from the Chrysler factory so make sure to check for oil leaks before doing the work or you will have to repeat the belt work when replacing the head gasket.

Question about broken water pump stud on an 03 Toyota Sienna?

    Hi,

I was changing my timing belt and I ran into a snag. I changed the water pump and when putting it back on I was tightening one of the NUTS. (There were a couple of bolts and 2 nuts that went on studs)

When I tightened one of the small nuts on a stud sticking out, I guess I did it too hard and it broke off flush on the outside of the water pump.

Can I fix this stud some how? Is it a common part? Does it simply unscrew where I can put in a new %26quot;stud rod%26quot; or am I in a bad jam? Do I have to have both nuts (that are close together) or could I get by with just 1 of them?

Thanks. I'm really scratching my head on this one.Question about broken water pump stud on an 03 Toyota Sienna?wow... im not saying you dont know what ur doing but... yeah. a exp mechanic should have an extractor set. Snap On sells a broken stud extractor set. it has a drill bit and a reverse extractor to grab the stud broken off. and yes you need to get it out. pressure is gonna build up and its gonna leak if you dont fix it. then go to ur local toyota dealer and get the stud. theyll have a diagram to point out which stud it is.Question about broken water pump stud on an 03 Toyota Sienna? You can ask a shop to suggest a %26quot;bolt doctor%26quot;.They are mechanics with special equipment and experience who make house calls. If you got yourself into this mess do you have the ability to get yourself out? There is a saying %26quot;it takes one mechanic to fall into the well but twelve mechanics to rescue him.

  • Hi,i have a question regarding water pump.?

i am driving a Renault Megane Cabriolet 2001,1.6,16V.Last week,i noticed a small patch of coolant leak on the floor.my mechanic says it could be a leak at the water pump.however,i had changed the water pump at 60000km servicing and my mileage now is only 30000km more.i had thought that water pumps should last more than 60000km,don't they?i noticed that the coolant leaked on the right side of the car whereas my coolant reservoir(overflow) is on the left side of the car.does this also points to a water pump leak?also,i noticed that there were no more coolant leaking on the floor since then but the level of coolant in the reservoir is slowing dropping.is there a way to tell for sure if it is indeed the water pump that is leaking as i have been trying to locate it but could not.should i look under the hood or under the car and how does it looks like?please help.thanks!Hi,i have a question regarding water pump.?it isn't your heater core, that will leak inside of the car, it is more then likely the water pump, find someone that has a pressure tester and they can pump the system up and then you will see right where it is coming from. Sometimes (depending on where you got the water pump from) they can fail prematurely and that really sucks, so it isn't always good to get the cheapest parts because you may pay for it down the road.Hi,i have a question regarding water pump.?your heater is leakingHi,i have a question regarding water pump.?Is the leak outside your car? Master Tech 40 yrs.Hi,i have a question regarding water pump.?I'm not familiar with Renault, I'm in Canada and these are a rarity. I'm guessing this is a transversally mounted engine. I'm also guessing that the front of the engine is on the right hand side of the vehicle. The only advice I can give you on this is look at where the puddle is, and then trace the location directly up, and look for the coolant trail, and follow it back to where it originates. Sometimes a coolant leak can be hard for a technician to diagnose. I've been stumped a few times. Also, the heater core should be in the middle of the vehicle under neith the dashboard [on the inside of the passenger compartment]. I do know Renault has had some strange designes in the past, and I'm not familiar with this make of vehicle though, so I may be wrong on the heater core. Take a look yourself, and if you can't figure it out, take it [back] to your technician and have a pressure test preformed. This should be able to narrow this down. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, I'm willing to help

I want to replace a water pump for my friend. I can't find any books on this car. I'm not sure how to replace this pump. Looking at new water pumps there lookes like 10 bolts, but on my chevy truck there was only 4. I don't know if all holes take a bolt or not, or if I need to take something out before I take the water pump out.

You REALLY need to know what you are doing on these. The left side intake and exhaust cams are on lobe when you line up the timing marks. If you don't have the proper tools, you will keep jumping off of lobe. Also, the lower timing mark is impossible to see without a reachy-mirror. This is a job where you need to replace the cam and crank seals as long as you are there. If you don't, you will go back in and do them again at some point.

Now, if you decide to fix these things, you might as well save up and have the head gaskets replaced if they have not already been done. All radiator shops and most repair shops have a coolent preasure tester. They will need to put the presure about 15LBS past the cap pressure and you should see coolent spraying out from the leak area. At the same time you will be diagnosing your entire cooling system. Gaskets, radiator, hoses, clamps, water pump, heater hoses and system. This is the only test to be definate in locating the leak.

95 Jeep 2.5L, replaced faulty water pump and thermostat, bled system of air and I have no heat?

I have bled the whole system of air and I still don't have any heat. Before changing the water pump and thermostat I had a furnace in my jeep. Now it only blows air slightly warmer than the outside temperature. Heater-core doesn't seem plugged. The inside water temperature gage doesn't move off of the low end and the engine is warm. Engine might be running cool, but not that cool. Should I check the temperature sending unit? If so how? Everything worked fine prior to the water pump going and I did hit 260 on the gage for about 5 minutes. Can't find any wires melted or anything out of the ordinary. I have a mini aquarium housing 5 tiny fish (20x15x10cm). How often should I change the water?

I have a mini pump/ water filtration system, and they have pebbles where the waste/ extra food sinks down to, and a bridge. I currently change the water about every 5 days, as it stays pretty clear. Also, for a tank of that size, should I change all the water at once? I usually use half tap water, and half water that has been sitting in a bottle at room temperature for a few days. The tank is so tiny, I find there is no point to use the old water, and also I want to clean out the excretion stuck under the pebbles. As the tank is so small, a thorough cleaning is necessary.

My fish seem very healthy, and active, even chasing each other. I also have a desklamp that sits over them, and warms the water. Is that ok? or am i better off using a professional fish lamp?? They have been surviving quite healthily without a lamp previously.

Any advice would be nice!! I am getting very fond of my fish.I have a mini aquarium housing 5 tiny fish (20x15x10cm). How often should I change the water?Without knowing how many gallons the tank holds I would say that you're ok doing with what you have been doing, as long as you use a water conditioner when you add new water to the tank. Also you want to keep some of the old water in when you change the water because it keeps useful bacteria in your tank, this in turn will keep your fish alive longer. Also the desk lamp is fine to mantain the temp which should be around 75 to 80 degrees.I have a mini aquarium housing 5 tiny fish (20x15x10cm). So please look up what kind of fish you have, Gabby. I am quite sure your fish tank is too crowded for 5 fish no matter how small they are.... please give us more details on those fish.

Having said that, the smaller the size of an aquarium, the more cautious needed... Since the volume of the water isn't a lot, if anything go wrong with the water, the problem will comes almost instant. If you could buy a fish tank, the bigger the better, since it's easier to control the water condition.

I would say your water change every 5 days routine sounds good to me, but clearing out everything and re-new all water isn't good. You should save some %26quot;old%26quot; water (20-30%) before you re-add new fresh (and decholorinated) water. Why 80%-70% water change every 5 days?? It is because of the size of your fish tank is small.

If you love keeping fish as pet, I highly suggest you check out tropical fish forum, there are lots of information and friendly people to ask and talk(or brag) about our own fish tank :-)

    http://www.fishforums.net/

EDIT: I've saw your other question about your %26quot;mini-goldfish%26quot; spit out fish food.... so those 5 fish are goldfish instead?... gold fish are pig (not those real pig)!! They excrete a lot.

Goldfish grows with tank size, if the size is too small, the body will stop growing once they think it's enough for them... BUT their organs won't stop growing.... so all the internal organs will crashed each other and thus we can often see goldfish die very quick.

Not because they have short lives, but instead they are being kept inside a fish bowl which barely have 2 gallon, while they need 20 gallon fish tank size per one, each additional goldfish inside the same tank after that will require another 10 gallon of water. Of course, that is for fully grown size goldfish. But fish will be a lot more happier if you allow them to grow in size right? They could live as long as 10-20 years if you take good care of them :) Good luck Gabby.

I also take back my words about using desklamp to warm the water, Because goldfish is not tropical fish. They indeed have shorter life span if they live in warmer condition.... But do check the forum I've told you to. It's full of information on fish (as pets) and friendly people :)I have a mini aquarium housing 5 tiny fish (20x15x10cm). How often should I change the water?first you shudnt use normal tap water because of chlorine use a solution in the tap water to remove this chemical.

you should only change quarter of the water every two weeks sudden change in water could be fatal to the fish .

use a aqarium vac to clean the waist out of the tank you shud always remove uneaten food from the tank every day as this cud pollute your tank.

all so buy your self a good book about aquariums as that will help you alot.

good luck with your fish and i hope it all goes wellI have a mini aquarium housing 5 tiny fish (20x15x10cm). How often should I change the water?i do gravel vacuums and water changes of maybe 80-90 % in my betta tanks -- wipe down the sides when you do it. this reduces the added stress on the fish of being netted and temporarily rehoused. just leave enough water for them to swim in. i keep a lidded garbage can full of water next to my fish so the water temp is roughly even. add it back it kind of slowly -- the hardest part of water changes on fish are the water temps. if you do this every 5 days your fish should be happy for a long time - depending on the kind of fish. a lot depends on the kind of fish you have. in a tank that small you need to make every mm countI have a mini aquarium housing 5 tiny fish (20x15x10cm). How often should I change the water?Hi Gabby-After well over a decade and a half, I have had over 7 fish tanks, some salt water, some freshwater community fish-tanks, and one freshwater tank for the fish that do not get along in the fish-world (kind of like the Siamese Beta theory: where if you mix up a bunch of them only the biggest and strongest will survive their battle of %26quot;natural fish that fight for many different reasons: their sex, you can't mix two females, etc., and many, many different reasons, including the personality of the fish.

How Do You Identify a Bad Water Pump?

My 2000 Pontiac Sunfire has been overheating and I recently changed the thermostat thinking that was the problem. The new thermostat didn't help and the engine is still over heating. I am starting to think it might be the water pump. How can I tell for sure? When I changed the thermostat and refilled the coolant tank I left the cap off and started the car to work out the air. I was told I should see bubbles in the tank but nothing happened, I thought this might be a sign of a bad water pump. I think I will be able to change the water pump on my own I just want to know for sure if that is the problem. How Do You Identify a Bad Water Pump?I agree with f100-supersabre's answer. And here's some more to ponder...

Chances are your water pump is just fine.

When was the last time, if ever, you serviced your cooling system? And by that I mean dumping the old anti-freeze, back flushing the system to include the heater core and refilling with fresh coolant.

If the answer is %26quot;never%26quot; then your radiator is probably toast. The internal passages are clogged and it does not dissipate heat effectively any more.

Another thing to consider: the electric cooling fan(s). How many does your car have?

With one fan, the fan will run: Anytime the A/C is switched on.

When the tempurature sensor in the cooling system rises above the

    preset value of the sensor.

With two fans: One will only and always operate when the A/C is switched on.

The second will operate in response to the preset value of the cooling system sensor.

Check the operation of the fan or fans. Turn on the A/C, the fan or one of the fans will turn on.

With one fan only, turn the A/C off and let the car idle until the

the single fan turns on in response to engine temperature.

With two fans, you can let the A/C run and let the car idle

until the second fan turns on in response to engine temp.

If the fans don't work as they should, the first place to look is for a blown fuse. High amp fuses are found in the engine bay in a seperate fuse box ...look for this ..pop the lid and check the fuses. A map for the fuse purpose/location is usually found under the lid. If the fuses look okay, then it may be a bad sensor or it might be a bad fan. The sensor is usually less expensive and easier to swap out than the fan assemblies.

Your cooling system, if has been neglected, may need both a radiator and some work on the fans if they prove less than up to snuff. How Do You Identify a Bad Water Pump?bubles would be a bad thing

commmon issue with the cavalier and sunfire is blown head gasket and they overheat

big bubbles coming up in the tank is the sign of a blown head gasket and they always overheat then

if no bubbles then thermostat is usually whats wrong in these cars.

makre sure you bleed the air out of the black steel tube in front of the engine there is a bleeder screw on it

also makre sure the cooling fan and relay work by unplugging the CTS sensor on the driver side end of the head, black oval shaped two wire plug

takes a few seconds to kick onHow Do You Identify a Bad Water Pump?It could ALSO be %26quot;crud%26quot; build up in the radiator interior or road junk in the radiator fins.

A bad water pump USUALLY leaks and/or %26quot;squeals%26quot;How Do You Identify a Bad Water Pump?http://www.ehow.com/how_4829065_test-water-pump.html

    Step 1

Open the car hood and locate the thermostat on the top of the radiator lid. Pull the thermostat and start the car. Watch the temperature gauge carefully. If the water pump is working properly, the engine should take a long time to warm up (if it ever does). With the thermostat removed, the coolant should circulate continuously, making it harder for the engine to warm up. If you cannot tell if the car is heating up slow or not, move to Step 2.

    Step 2

Turn the car off and locate the water pump and the water pump drive belt in the engine compartment. Use the wrench set to loosen the belt retaining bolt and pull the belt off of the pump. Spin the belt drive with your hands to see if it rolls smoothly and to determine if there is any movement or %26quot;play%26quot; in the driveshaft. If the pump seems in good working order, replace the belt, tighten the retaining screw back up, and move on to Step 3.

    Step 3

Locate the coolant drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and use the wrench set to remove it. Allow all of the coolant to drain out into a container and dispose of it. Replace the drain plug in the bottom of the radiator and then pour coolant into the radiator. Start the car up and watch the level of coolant carefully. If the water pump is working properly, the coolant level should drop quickly as the pump circulates coolant to other areas of the engine. Fill the radiator back up with coolant and watch it to drop again. If the coolant drops then your water pump is fine, however if the coolant drops very slowly or not at all it may be time for a new pump.

    Changing a water pump on a corsa b 1.2?

I'm buying a corsa b 1.2 on friday, but the water pump in it needs replacing. It will cost me 30 to get the pump but how do i replace it? I don't want to go to a garage because they charge loads. how do i do it myself? Also, with the timing belt, do i have to replace it if i remove it?

thanks!Changing a water pump on a corsa b 1.2?I don't know this particular car (have an Astra F 97 diesel myself).

My advice is to buy a service book for this particular car from a bookstoor that specialize in automobile service books. It should tell you how to do it.

There's better forums for this kind of question at other internet sites (dedicated car sites, and dedicated for certain brands, etc.)

You also will need access to a lot of tools, and coolant for refilling. And proper tools are 80% of the job. The gasket normally comes

    with the pump.

I guess most cars are designed in such a way that you don't have to touch the timing belt. And if you have to, I don't know for this car.

In any case a service book should answer that as well.

  • How much should it cost to change a waterpump?

I have a 1996 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan. It has a 3.3 Liter V6 motor. I need tto have the water pump changed. What is an average cost to have this done by a mechanic? How much will a dealer charge for this? How much should it cost to change a waterpump?yea your looking at around 200 to 300 to have a garage do it if you find some one around you like me your looking at 150How much should it cost to change a waterpump?the pump is probably less then 50bucks i dont for the mech but where i live it's about 60-70bucks an hour you could always change it yourself

I need it in 10 minutes how much is a water pump for pt cruiser 04? and the price for installation?? h.W plz.

its home work please..... for an example if i go to a auto shop and change my water pump how much will be the installation price and the water pump price?? (PT Cruiser 04)I need it in 10 minutes how much is a water pump for pt cruiser 04? and the price for installation?? h.W plz.best price quote I can give is:

2.4l non turbo 7.0 hours labor with add-on for recover, evac and recharge a/c for and adt. 1.4 hours (ave shop rate $90.00 per hour)

2.4 turbo same labor times 8.4 hours total labor (ave shop rate $90.00 per hour)

    part number # 4884159aa $91.00, gasket 4621564 $5.00, coolant 5066386ab $21.00

    Chrysler parts

might want to consider replacing timing belt and timing belt tensioner depending on mileage. add about $200.00 for this add-on cost. (would save considerable labor if you waited and it went bad later on)

Actual cost for repair could be as much as $1000-1200

hope this was helpfulI need it in 10 minutes how much is a water pump for pt cruiser 04? and the price for installation?? h.W plz.just had an 02 PT in the shop. Water pump is driven by the timing belt, to do the timing belt the A/C must be evacuated. This is a very yucky job to do. I would recommend replace timing belt at same time (even if you haven't hit recommended timing belt interval). The 02 PT cruiser had a poorly designed timing belt tensioner, while there I would install the updated one. Replace Water Pump on a 96 Dodge Stratus 2.4L?

Just bought a 96 Dodge Stratus with the 2.4L 4 Cyl. Motor. Only Significant problem is that the water pump leaks and needs to be replaced. I am a fairly skilled mechanic but don't know much about Dodge motors. If anyone knows of a good site to get a free manual on how to change the water pump, or can give a detailed description on how to do it I would be very greatful... Thanks.Replace Water Pump on a 96 Dodge Stratus 2.4L?I would recommend a Chilton Manual. You can use a Haynes Manual, but the a inferior book. I prefer the Chilton. I believe the water pump is driven by the timing chain. As long as you can figure out your timing marks then the hard part is just getting to it. The Stratus is difficult to work on because the engine compartment is very tight.

Water pump 2001 V.W. Jetta --how many hours to fix it?

We need to change the water pump on a 2001 VW Jetta. What is involved to do this; i.e., how many hours? What is the difficult part of doing this? Is there a regular table that figures the hours allowed to do it. I ask because we need a rough idea how much it will cost when we bring it in. And is there a difference in cost between the dealer's mechanic or other mechanic?Water pump 2001 V.W. Jetta --how many hours to fix it?Basically, when you replace the water pump, you might as well replace the timing belt (except VR6). Average labor time is about 8 hours.

The difference between prices between dealerships %26amp; independent mechanics are:

    1. Labor rates

    2. Parts prices. Some independent mechanic may buy direct from the dealership. Others buy the equivalent part from the Original Equipment Manufacturer

A lot of independent mechanics will recommend to use a water pump with a metal alloy impeller, vs the Original Equipment water pump which uses a plastic impellerWater pump 2001 V.W. • How often do you have to change water in a small tank?

i got this cheap little... well i wouldn't even call it a tank.

but it has an air pump type thing that bubbles the water up

and i have two fish in it.

how often should i change the water, and do i need to get anything to put in the new water? How often do you have to change water in a small tank?If your tank is under 2 gallons, you should NOT have 2 fish in it, unless they are tetras (you can have 2 per gallon in this case, but really need to have 6... so not a good choice :-P)

But, anyways. It depends on how much waste your fish makes. Goldfish need to have about 20 gallons of water each or else they will need a water change daily.

The air pump that makes bubbles- its a bubbler. It circulates the water and creates a current. I prefer a filter, but this at least circulates the water.

you should change the water... depends actually on the size of tank and type of fish. The smaller the tank the smaller, but more frequent water changes they need.

If the tank is 2 gallons or smaller, go for a 25% water change 2 times a week (small tanks are a pain in the neck to take care of, i have one)

The only real way to know is to get a liquid water test kit. do NOT get the strips as they are not accurate.

They check the water for ammonia (deadly, and is created by the fishes waste), the Chlorine, and the Chlorimine (also very deadly)

your tank is not cycled, so untill it cycles itself, you really need to watch the tank levels.

If you are not able to get one of these kits, as they are about $25, just do the %25 water changes maybe on a Sunday and wednesday/thursday.

oh and i forgot to add, you will need to get a water conditioner (aprox $2-4). It removes the deadly chlorine and chlorimine in the tap water. Try to add it to the water before putting it in the tank. I use a gallon jug, fill up with the water, add the conditioner and let it sit for about 1/2 hour. as soon as water is room temp, you are good to go. If you don't use one, the chlorine from the water will burn the gills of your fish, and has a high chance of killing.

Good luck. How often do you have to change water in a small tank?Hi

    A small tank, like a 1 gallon ?

Ok, professionals advise changing the water that with holds a filter media to once a week. No filter----every two days. Say every saturday.

Now you need a heater for certain fish, and you require water conditioner, to remove any chlorine, metals that come through the pipes, or spring water.

    A ph tester

Maintain a clean filter, when it gets orange, change the filter floss.

Don't forget to airate the waterHow often do you have to change water in a small tank?it depends on the fish you have, if you have goldfish, then you should change 25% of the water every 1-2 days, if you have tropical, such as guppies, platys, tetra etc.......

then you should change 25% every 3-4 days, because goldfish produce more waste then tropical you need to change it more often. Fish usually die if you change alot or all of their water. you should always use dechlorinator to make the water safer, I think i have the same small air pump thing as you do. You might need a heater if you have tropical.

    Hope i helped :D

Goodluck! How often do you have to change water in a small tank?Knowing the gallons would help us help you. But if it's really small, then it also depends on what you have in it. Sounds like you have a air stone, but not a filter? if you have goldfish, then every other day as they produce a large amount of wast. Do only partial water changes. have some treated/aged water on hand at all times. If they are tropicals you might get away with every 5 days. But i really need to know how many gallons, what type of fish? How often do you have to change water in a small tank?how many gal does it take. 2 fish depending on type need 10-20gal. you can get a water filter to help til you can get a bigger tank.you might have to change the water everyday to everyother dayHow often do you have to change water in a small tank?Well at least once a week but if you notice that once a week is not helping then clean it more times. No you don't just take out about 80%of the water and then refill it with new water. How often do you have to change water in a small tank?Once a week. Take out 25% of the water and replace it. Remember if you're using tap water, use water conditioner! How often do you have to change water in a small tank?25% of the water monthly.

Flat rate on your car is 2.8. So it's going to be 300 labor, the water pump is $40 and the timing belt and tensioner (you always replace tensioner it even comes with the new belt) is $70. So your looking at just over $400 for the job.

Aquarium pump no longer pulls water after last tank cleaning. Why?

I have a Marineland System 3 aquarium... After the last water change/cleaning, the pump refuses to pull up any water. It makes noise, but refuses to pull water. Anyone know why? or how to fix this?Aquarium pump no longer pulls water after last tank cleaning. Why?It may need to be primed. You might need to get something to fill the pump with water. Get a cup and take water from the tank and pour it into the pump. If it keeps running and it isn't primed, it could burn the motor out. It could be dirty. Did you clean it? It could be the impeller needs to be given a jump start. You can do this by getting something and slightly hitting it. I usually use a pipette and just poke it a bit. The impeller spins like a windmill, but sideways, and sometimes it stops spinning so it needs something to tap it so it starts again. I use something plastic or wooden so there's no chance of getting shocked.Aquarium pump no longer pulls water after last tank cleaning. Why?sometimes you need to take the powerhead apart and clean the impeller. check it to make sure its not broken and put it back together. I hold mine in a bowl of water sometimes to make sure it works. sometimes it needs a tap because mine is missing a paddle. Make sure you fill the filter with water and check that the intake pipe is in tightly so suction isn't lost.

How much does it cost to change a timing belt and water pump on my a car?

how often do i need to change a timing belt and water pump on my car? also, how much should it cost? should i have it done at the dealers or at a small mechanic shop if i chose to? which would be best? what are steps when having timing belt change? How much does it cost to change a timing belt and water pump on my a car?The timing belt needs to be change according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Lacking that knowledge, 60,000 miles is a safe interval.

The water pump does not need to be changed unless if fails.

It's not possible to quote a cost on changing either. Some are fairly quick and easy -- SOHC I-4s without the silent shafts can be as little as $150.00 for the timing belt, and about the same for the water pump. A bit less if both are changed at the same time, possibly. A more complex engine such as a DOHC 4 with silent shafts or a DOHC V-6 or V-8mcan be much more expensive -- several hundred $$$ or more because there may be multiple belts and getting the timing right is a chore. A few are downright nasty as the engine needs to be pulled to get enough room to work on them -- early Hyundai Sonatas were that way.

Any competent mechanic can do the job, you don't normally need to go a dealer. That said, the dealer is likely to have factory trained staff and may be familiar with shortcuts and have any special tools needed.

The exact procedure is specific to the individual engine. You need a service manual to get it right. Cam timing is hyper-critical. Mess that up and at best the engine won't run. At worst, you can destroy the engine if valves hit the pistons. How much does it cost to change a timing belt and water pump on my a car?Not knowing the car and the market you live in...

    $3-500 is a good guess...

Call the dealer and price them, sometimes they are so experienced doing a job they will quote less then an independent repair shop...

    Usually not though.

they always seem to say when you should do it and what they charge. the water pump shouldnt be much extra (100?)since they are already doing the timing belt.

call a mechanic you trust and ask them. If you do not have one then ask your friends who is good.

the dealer will rip you off on price, it can easily cost double there

would you rater pay someone inexperienced at the dealer $100 per hour or someone who has done it for 40 years $60 per hour and he does it faster anyways (so it costs less)(and they take pride in their work)(and they will replace other parts that need it for cheap and leave pieces that are still good because they know)

The dealer might charge you for 6 hours because the book says that even if they only spend 4 doing it!

a VERY rough guess would be 600+100 for water pump

you do not need to replace timing belt very often. I am thinking 60,000 miles.

look up in owners manual or shop manual for your car for replacement interval.

Timing Belt / Water Pump. How Much would it cost?

    I drive a 2002 Saturn L300, V6 engine.

My car is needing a timing belt and maybe a water pump change, but at the same time I am on a tight budget.

Around how much would it cost to change those items?

And are there any shops out there that has a military discount?Timing Belt / Water Pump. How Much would it cost?Expect to spend at least $800. This is actually a Saab/Opel engine. The timing belt kit alone is about $340. If you are clever and can find a Continental timing belt kit, it is around $200. The Water pump from HEPU, the best euro pump maker, is around $80. It takes a handful of special tools to install the belt and pulley assembly. An estimate at Saturn for a friend of mine that waited too long and bent a few vaolves, was $4200 with new heads, gaskets, timing belt ($104 at Saturn dealer). CHANGE THE BELT before it breaks!!!!!Timing Belt / Water Pump. How Much would it cost?Between $450-550 sounds about right. Make sure you change both of them at the same time. It will save you in labor later on. You'll also have your seals replaced when they do this. That'll help prevent oil leaks from them. Military discounts? There are quite a few shops that will od it. I don't recall where I've seen them off hand but I've 10-15% off military discounts before. The $200 mentioned by the previous answer could not have been for both items. Just the water pump I believe. The timing belt alone is over $200 and that's just for the part.Timing Belt / Water Pump. How Much would it cost?A couple hundred, maybe a thousand.

    I honestly don't know.

On another note, I read your question about not being able to point your foot up after soccer. Exact same thing is happening to me right now, would you mind telling me what was wrong?Timing Belt / Water Pump. How Much would it cost? For me it was about 200.00, thats including labor. Look up the parts at Autozone.com, and then add about 80.00 an hour for labor. Maybe that will give you a good estimate.

  • I have a 1998 Camary 145k 4 cyl my water pump just went out. My timing belt was changed about 25k ago.?

do I need to replace it again ? How hard is it to change the water pump? Any Idea where on the internet I can download a free maintenance manual or replacement instructions ?I have a 1998 Camary 145k 4 cyl my water pump just went out. My timing belt was changed about 25k ago.?Here%26#039;s the bad news. Probably. But depending on how you%26#039;re handling the water pump, it might be worth taking a chance on. And I%26#039;d probably change mechanics.

Timing belts will typically last a lot longer than Toyota dealers admit. I don%26#039;t know exactly how long, because my OEM failed at 162,000 miles. What caused mine to fail was the water pump went bad, got on the belt , etc.

I didn%26#039;t post the parts bin link as a reference to buying things from them, but I used to buy things from them as the BenzBin. It%26#039;s been several years, but a couple of times, I had to sort some things out with them by telephone and they were not just helpful, but knowledgeable.

I can%26#039;t guess at whether you%26#039;ve hit the magic combination of pump leak on belt or not. The belt itself isn%26#039;t all that expensive. It%26#039;s the labor. I can%26#039;t remember the engine layout, so I don%26#039;t know how involved removing and replacing the pump is. If the labor for the pump R%26amp;R is intrinsic or mostly so to the R%26amp;R of the timing belt, the additional cost may be warranted. The belt will cost something like $100 and I%26#039;m not sure where the bleeding point is.

On the other hand, they%26#039;ll want to replace it anyway at 60,000 on the belt. the standard belt has been a neopreme composite and new engines use what%26#039;s caused a high nitrile material. The newer belts have a recommended interval of 90,000 miles. You%26#039;ve probably got the Neopre

The good news of sorts is that having a belt failure in a toyota 4 cylinder isn%26#039;t quite the same big deal as a belt or chain failure on some engines. You want to check this to be sure, but the Toyota 4 is what%26#039;s known as a non-interferring belt. If it breaks, it won%26#039;t normally destroy your engine by shoving a valve through a piston. It can, but it%26#039;s a lot less likely. With some engine replacement is a virtual certainty. typically, the non-interference engine will simply stop running. Mine dropped dead at 70 mph. I pulled over, had it towed (through AAA) and had it back the next day.

Why would I suggest changing mechanics? Maybe the mechanic told you this, but it is absolutely insane to R%26amp;R a camshaft belt without replacing the waterpump , especially on a high mileage engine. Depending on age the water pump will usually go 140,000, but there%26#039;s no guarantee and after that you%26#039;ll living on borrowed time. If you%26#039;re planning to drive this thing until it drops, might as well make sure.

FWIW, inteference engines are usually junked if the belt or chain breaks. I did the water pump on a Benz 5 cylinder Diesel -- and it%26#039;s way too complicated, but it%26#039;s like a cartoon show of Bugs Bunny tossing parts out into a pile as big as the car and working through allen headed bolts that someone has buggered. When I finally got the water pump, I rebuilt the vacuum pump which you can%26#039;t get too without pulling the pump. The vacuum pump is a critical part of the Diesel setup (for most Benzes of that type). There were a few other things. You don%26#039;t do this without replacing all the belts and hoses unless they are new or very close to it. I gave the Diesel to a friend%26#039;s son and he%26#039;s put another 100k on it. Can%26#039;t kill it. It%26#039;s up to about 400K, running strong after 26 years without any major engine work and uniform compression typical of a new diesel of the period.

FWIW, if the Camry is in otherwise good shape, I%26#039;d hang on to it. I put 215,000 miles on one and it was perfect mechanically when a family member banged it up and it wasn%26#039;t worth the bodywork. I drove it hard and still got 30mpg on the road and well above 20 in urban driving. We put 175K on a Corolla that%26#039;s still running (family member has it). We had a problem with one at 96,000. Someone in a shop changed the oil and used it for a trip to the store, rearending a truck and totaling it..

Here%26#039;s information you didn%26#039;t ask for. Most of the things that will go bad are reasonably predictable, i.e. timing belts and water pumps.

Usually, at about 160K-175K, the probability is that if you drive at a steady speed, usually 60 mph or over on a smooth road you%26#039;ll start to feel a bit of vibration from one of the front wheels. The other wheel may or may not follow. It is hard to put your finger on it, but at that mileage, it%26#039;s likely a wheel thrust bearing is failing.

I did most of the work on two Toyotas and had shop manuals for them because it saved me time. I was commuting long distance every day than doing a 500 mile round trip every weekend, usually by car.

I%26#039;ve never been fond of Toyota dealers, but they couldn%26#039;t get it. Four trip to three dealers in three different states. There was a shop that recognized the problem (I told them what it was). One of the dealer mechanics after laying off some completely unnecessary work, was demonstrating that I was wrong by jacking the wheel off the ground. I had to show him how to find it and I made it a point to tell him it was in his shop manual.

For all that, I got good service from Toyotas especially after I mostly dumped the dealers. The final straw early on was having an oxygen sensor replaced on my Supra. After killing the entire day and adding unwanted additives, the dealer told me they%26#039;d discovered an exhaust leak and would need another day to find it and fix it. I drove it home, found that the mechanic left the bolts loose. it returned them to factory specs and rove it another 120K miles without an exhaust leak.

This isn%26#039;t putting mechanics down.They%26#039;re reflecting their management for the most part. Your car is reaching an age mechanically where what goes wrong is beyond the average mechanic%26#039;s actual experience. The average high mileage car ends up geting shade tree work.

If you%26#039;ve kept the oil changed and checked, you should be good for another 100K and it%26#039;s hard to beat the mileage or cost of operation. I usually did the brake work myself (time initially, then fewer problems). I found the build quality of the Toyotas better than any American car I%26#039;ve owned and in many cases were engineered better than the over-engineered German cars.

FWIW, I%26#039;d check carefully on a German car on the interference question. MB is a little notorious for this. They built an engine in the 70s in which the single chain was inclined to early failure without noticeable slap. If you%26#039;re dealing with interference engine out of waranty, you don%26#039;t want to take chances.

Updated. Some of the people answering have a mistaken view of the timing belt%26#039;s location . It is housed. I%26#039;ve added some links including a list of Toyota inteferers and non-interference engines. Assume you know that the belt is not accessible without removal of the cover and the parts to get at it.

Do not follow any of the advice here on how to replace a timing belt. It may be simple, but I don%26#039;t have the shop manuals now -- you might get the sequence from a Chilton for your specific engine. It might be simple, but getting to TDC doesn%26#039;t get you where you need to be. If you read some of the material about belts, you%26#039;ll see what I%26#039;m talking about. Don%26#039;t start this as a project unless you have considerable understanding for what you know -- and don%26#039;t know. If I find the material you need I%26#039;ll post it here with a source.I have a 1998 Camary 145k 4 cyl my water pump just went out. My timing belt was changed about 25k ago.?depends on the car really most are not that hard but sometimes you have to remove a lot of things to get to where they are..... if you know anything about working on motors would be a can do it at home thing... would take any where from a few hours to a whole weekendI have a 1998 Camary 145k 4 cyl my water pump just went out. My timing belt was changed about 25k ago.?Since the labor is the same to get to the timing belt and the water pump, you might as well replace the belt too; you%26#039;d just have to go back in in another 30K miles or so for the belt anyways.

To be honest, the water pump should have been replaced back when the belt was changed out 25K miles ago to avoid this very problem.

All the instructions you need are in there.I have a 1998 Camary 145k 4 cyl my water pump just went out. My timing belt was changed about 25k ago.?If it were mine, I%26#039;d replace the belt again anyway, coolant can accelerate the wear or advance rotting of the belt. The waterpump is driven off of the timing belt so you%26#039;d need to make sure you have it all set up to TDC and all marks aligned before removing the belt. Then just remove the bolts to the water pump, scrape away all old gasket material and install new pump, torque bolts to specs w/ micrometer (in lbs) but before you can do all that, you have to remove all components on the front of the motor. Long story short...let a shop do it for you!!!I have a 1998 Camary 145k 4 cyl my water pump just went out. My timing belt was changed about 25k ago.?buy a book for 20.00
