How often should i change my turtles water?

I was wondering how often I should change my turtles water in the tank since I don't have a pump and filter in it as of yet? I'm planing on getting them this week tho, I have an 80 gallon tank that houses one mississippi map turtle right now I'm also planing to buy one more water turtle this week as well.

I am no expert, just been blessed with 2 healthy red eared sliders girls for 36 yrs. Got them on mty 18th b-day!



I wish you luck. I have been a mom to Two 36 yr old females for 36 long yrs.( plus an 8,5 male red eared sliders and 2 yr yellow bellied old male adopted from this site now for the last 7 yrs now).



These guys in my 150 gallon pond get 500 plus goldfish a month. Leafy greens and fruits 4 times a week and plus electricity plus I also feed dried cubed blood worms or tubiflex worms at least 5 times a week.



.These guys have a two good heaters ( starting in the fall), a GOOD filter, (UVA/UVB rep light, starting in the fall till end of winter) basking dock yr round.



These turtles in captivity do not hibernate their eating may slow down some but they will not hibernate.

They will bite very very hard. Under 4%26quot; they carry a disease called 'salmonella'. So you must wash after every handling ANY size turtle..

These guys can become cannibalistic and will kill the smallest turtle if there is not enough room and food.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they poop allot. You need a good filter system!

I had 20 turtles but now only 4 are left plus 5 eggs. I have to change the water likely everyday.



And by the way u don't really need a filter... it saves u money and just imagine when they are wild I mean in river not yet captured, who do you think will put a really huge and big filter in the river!!!? huh



hope I've helped!!!!! and ya almost forgot, never ever put chlorophyll in the water, sellers will not tell you but I have been doing it and believe me, they start having eye problems. their eyes swell and they become..... blind. I mean not really but u must go to a vet.
