How do i set the timing and get the cylinder to TDC for a 95' Mitsubishi Diamante?

im changing a water pump on a single overhead cam 3.o V6 DOHC (95' Diamante) and i cant get the timing to line up correctly. the cams wont turn far enough to line up the timing and im told it will if i get the no. 1 cylinder to TDC, how exactly do i do that?How do i set the timing and get the cylinder to TDC for a 95' Mitsubishi Diamante?dohc means you have duel over head cam not single.get a haynes manual for your car it will show you how to align timing marks %26amp; #1 cylinder to tdc.How do i set the timing and get the cylinder to TDC for a 95' Mitsubishi Diamante?Hopefully you did not remove the timing belt as of yet. If so, then you pretty much have possibly created a new problem. As far as setting the first cylinder at top dead center, you usually will have a small dot on the crank sprocket (the bottom one) which will be your timing mark. Generally speaking, when you got that sprocket at 12:00, you have the first cylinder at top dead center. The 2 cam sprockets also should have similar marks. As far as where they are supposed to be positioned, I am sorry but I don't know but they should also have a similar ordeal. Try turning the crank sprocket slowly, you will have some hard spots but that's from then the cylinders are about to reach top dead center and are on the %26quot;compression stroke%26quot;.
